Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (Anthropology)

Applicants should (i) possess a PhD in Anthropology; (ii) have a demonstrated research record focused on contemporary Chinese society that is appropriate to the rank to which they apply; (iii) be capable of teaching courses on contemporary China at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and (iv) demonstrate an interest in academic leadership; (v) be proficient in English and Chinese.  
 
The appointee will be expected to (a) teach courses in the Centre’s undergraduate and MA programmes in Chinese Studies; (b) recruit and supervise Research Post-graduate students (MPhil and PhD); (c) apply for competitive research funding; and (d) provide service for the Centre, the Faculty of Arts, and the University.  
 
The appointment will normally be made on a contract-basis for up to 3 years initially commencing August 2023. Subject to mutual agreement, Assistant Professors may receive a second three-year contract prior to applying for substantiation (tenure). Experienced scholars applying for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor may request acceleration of the substantiation review after having served for at least one year's service; and, particularly outstanding applicants may be considered for appointment under the university strategic recruitment scheme.
