Johns Hopkins University is seeking a relationship-driven, compassionate, and organized team player to serve as an Academic Advisor in the Office of Undergraduate Academic Advising in the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE). The Office of Undergraduate Academic Advising (UAA), located on the beautiful Homewood campus in north Baltimore, Maryland, supports the WSE mission to prepare undergraduates to be 21st century leaders by providing an outstanding engineering education and enabling undergraduates to participate fully in the research and translational activities of the school. Our office provides academic support to all undergraduate engineering students and coordinates the undergraduate faculty advising program.

The successful candidate will assume this role at an exciting time as the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) is reimagining undergraduate academic advising, faculty mentoring, and advisor development. Academic Advisors perform general advising duties, handle academic issues affecting students, manage registration processes for incoming first year and transfer students, coordinate the graduation clearance process, and provide information to prospective students and their families. Enthusiasm for working with high achieving, socially and culturally diverse student populations is highly desired.

This position is hybrid, requiring three days in the office and two days working from home during the fall and spring semesters, and remote for 10-weeks in the summer. During critical times in the academic cycle, this hybrid schedule may be interrupted. Academic Advisors report to Associate Directors for Undergraduate Advising.

Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field, including Social Science, is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to interact productively with faculty, administrators, students, and other academic and administrative departments.
  • Understanding of student development theory and current academic advising practices.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to all levels of the organization and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
  • Experience supervising and developing staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other advising technology platforms.
