Stockton University is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Dean in the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences, a non-tenured managerial position. The School of Social & Behavioral Sciences employs 70 full and part-time faculty, 50 staff, and approximately 60 adjunct faculty. The School enrolls approximately 1,820 students in the following undergraduate programs: Criminal Justice, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology/Anthropology and minors in Behavioral Neuroscience, Childhood Studies, Gerontology, and Victimology & Victim Services. The School offers master’s degrees in Criminal Justice, Counseling, and Social Work and houses the Child Welfare Education Institute, the Stockton Center for Successful Aging, and the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy. Students and Faculty in the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences teach and learn in Galloway (main campus), Atlantic City, and at Kramer Hall in Hammonton.



Responsibilities:

General:

  • Interprets and applies University policies and procedures needed to increase operational efficiency in the School
  • Recommends direction and annual goals in terms of enrollments, programs, resource allocation, and personnel recruitment
  • Works with the other Associate/Assistant Deans to coordinate issues across Schools, such as room scheduling, registration procedures, and new student registration
  • Plans and executes events and publications for the School such as University commencements, open houses, orientations, and Bulletin production; website management
  • Serves as proxy to the Dean in approval of timesheets, requisitions, and payment requests
  • Represents the Dean in her absence, including at the Deans' and/or Provost Council
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences and/or the Provost, and Vice President

Staff and Faculty-related:

  • Supervises the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences academic office staff; engages in staff evaluation, reclassification, and hiring
  • Supervises the adjunct faculty; coordinates recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and reappointment
  • Approves course offerings and faculty schedules as per University policy; enforces School policies regarding curricular integrity; independently evaluates enrollment expectations and manages outcomes
  • Works with faculty to adjust to cancellations and other changes as related to their teaching assignment and workload as per University policy and existing labor agreements
  • Ensures compliance with negotiated faculty workload; addresses discrepancies directly with faculty, selects and implements necessary steps toward resolution
  • Prepares and monitors budgets for adjuncts, Program Chairs and Directors, and faculty overloads; manages payments in these areas
  • Assists the Dean and University by providing recommendations relative to matters affecting collective bargaining or the development of management's position in negotiations, grievances, or other matters in all areas of assigned responsibilities

Student-related:

  • Manages, monitors and predicts the School's course, section, and seat needs including General Studies obligations and oversees classroom allocations and assignments
  • Reviews, assigns credit, and approves all applications for Student Special Projects, Internships, and Independent Studies, per University policy; works with faculty to ensure accuracy of all submitted information
  • Handles all aspects of student concerns and complaints, including those involving faculty; has authority to resolve issues by developing appropriate methods and means; makes referrals to relevant offices for administrative and/or disciplinary purposes
  • Approves grade changes, incompletes, independent studies, and internships, consistent with University, School, and Program policies
  • Evaluates and approves graduation certifications; resolves discrepancies in graduation audits; develops and implements corrective measures when necessary to enforce University policies


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a related field
  • Five years of higher education academic experience (e.g. in a division of Academic Affairs, curricular development, assessment or academic advising or administrative assignments)
  • Direct experience working with higher education faculty and students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree in related field
  • Experience in higher education administration
  • Demonstrates strong organizational, communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Teaching experience in social or behavioral science or related field at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
  • Experience advising and/or coaching students on academic and persistence matters
  • Experience with pre-licensure and accredited programs
  • Experience supervising personnel in a union environment
  • Experience working with Banner, Degree Works or comparable student and management information systems in an educational setting
