The Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Johns Hopkins University is excited to accept applications for the role of Sr. Diversity Strategist. Reporting directly to the Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion/Chief Diversity Officer (VPDI/CDO), the Sr. Diversity Strategist (DS) will work closely with the VPDI and their team to identify data and evidence-based approaches to develop scalable solutions to institution-wide goals related to diversity and inclusion. The DS will work with key partners and stakeholder groups to review and design programs, resources, and activities aligned with proven practices. Further, the DS will work to identify the additional resources necessary to support brand, policy, and programmatic changes for diversity and inclusion at Hopkins.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop a database of evidence-based practices that support the strategic diversity, equity, and inclusion goals activities associated with the Second Roadmap on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Research, develop, implement, and lead projects designed to support inclusion, equity and diversity across Johns Hopkins.
  • Research and develop metrics for measuring the effectiveness of institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Evaluate outcome measures associated with DEI metrics.
  • Conduct program reviews and assessments using appropriate sources of data internal and external to the University for benchmarking and decision-making.
  • Partner with the Office of Institutional Research to develop data reports and dashboards on student, faculty, and staff diversity, equity, and inclusion measures.
  • Develop and assist with presentations related to campus diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
  • Consult and provide guidance to divisional leadership who seek to use diversity, equity, and inclusion metrics.
  • Identify and develop materials that will help support divisional strategic decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with JHU affiliates and community partners to achieve strategic initiatives.
  • Identify and prepare grant proposals to support institutional and divisional efforts focused on DEI.
  • Develop presentations and materials that are constituent specific to help advance an initiative (i.e. eliminate technical jargon when it is not necessary or engaging in technical and data analytic language when helpful in advancing an initiative).
  • Stay current on emerging issues and trends in DEI work.
  • Provide recommendations for internal growth among D&I practitioners at JHU as opportunities present themselves. Assist with developing a research agenda and output that highlights diversity, equity, and inclusion work at JHU.

Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

  • Effective communication and writing skills.
  • Personal and/or professional commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and/or social justice work.
  • Strong quantitative research skills and familiarity with data and evidence-based practices.
  • Expertise in research, measurement, statistics, qualitative methods, mixed methods, and/or higher education administration with an emphasis in assessment, research, and measurement.
  • Ability to navigate large databases (e.g., data warehouse) and utilize analysis systems (e.g., SPSS, SAS, etc.) for assessment and analytical purposes.
  • Experience with survey design and data analysis.
  • Ability to think critically, strategically, and to address emerging diversity, equity and inclusion trends and issues in higher education.
  • Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the attainment of divisional and institutional goals and objectives.
  • Record of working effectively to promote an environment of collegiality and diversity.
  • Detail oriented and self-initiated, collaborative, team-player open to addressing the myriad needs of key partners and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Word, and Excel, a must.
  • Additional proficiency with SAP, MS Teams, Zoom, MS SharePoint preferred – but not required.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively on conflicting demands.
  • Ability to execute assigned project tasks within established schedule.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the service of users and colleagues.
  • Possesses sound documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Six (6) years of related experience required.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience in accordance to the JHU equivalency formula.

  • Master’s or terminal degree preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred, but not required.
