Job Details

The Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position for the 2023-24 academic year (starting August 2023). This position will involve teaching undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses, research, and service, and generally consist of teaching 5 courses per academic year. Areas of particular research interest include: nutritional epidemiology, behavior change, global nutrition, community/public health nutrition, nutrition and aging, maternal and child nutrition, food policy, and food systems and sustainability. Candidates research efforts will primarily focus on contributing to ongoing extramural research within the department, college, and university.

About the University of Rhode Island and the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences:  The University of Rhode Island is the state’s current Land, Sea, and Urban grant public research institution. It offers cutting-edge research, discovery, and experiences typically found at larger universities, alongside the warm, friendly, student-centered atmosphere of smaller institutions. The university's 1200-acre, picturesque rural setting in historic Kingston Village is perfectly located just 6 miles from Rhode Island's coastal beaches. The Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences has a strong undergraduate program (~120 undergraduate students) and a strong graduate program (~70 Dietetic Interns, Master’s, and PhD students).  There are 10 faculty members in the Department.  The Department is housed within the College of Health Sciences, which is a member of the URI’s Academic Health Collaborative.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate is expected to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in Nutrition and Food Sciences, mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to active research.
