Department Summary
The Physical Education and Recreation Department (PE and Rec) plays a vital role at the University of Oregon in educating, engaging, and inspiring the campus community to live active, balanced lives! Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Mind-Body and Fitness is a full-time 12-month position that provides leadership and management for physical education mind-body classes, the recreational group exercise program, and mind-body movement initiatives.
This position's key responsibilities include curriculum management, course instruction, program planning, event administration, budget management, facilities and equipment oversight, and participation data analysis and assessment. This position is responsible for decision-making related to faculty FTE, student personnel, and day-to-day operations of the group fitness programs as they relate to sales, participation, policies, and procedures.
The Assistant Director for Mind-Body and Fitness supervises approximately 7-10 part-time PE faculty and 20-30 student employees. These responsibilities include hiring, training, scheduling, evaluation, and development. This position must lead by example and maintain the highest ethical standards within the department and the university as well as collaborate and maintain effective relationships with departmental and campus partners.
The Assistant Director for Mind-Body and Fitness has dual reporting to the Associate Director of Physical Education and the Senior Assistant Director of Wellbeing. This person is a member of the PE Team, Programming Team, and the Student Development Team.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education,
Recreation Administration, Sports Management, or related
field.
- Two (2) years of experience in an environment related to
fitness and/or mind-body instruction and administration.
- Two (2) years of experience instructing group fitness and/or
mind-body to groups of 10 or more.
- Two (2) years of experience in hiring, mentoring, scheduling,
training, and/or evaluating staff.
- Nationally recognized fitness and/or mind-body certification,
such as ACE, ACSM, NSCA, or Yoga Alliance.
- CPR and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within
3 months of employment.
Professional Competencies
- Effective communication skills.
- Proficiency with software applications for email, word
processing, scheduling, reporting, and curriculum
management.
- Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working
effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support
of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Evidence of leadership experience and/or a commitment to
student learning and development.
- Work experience in a higher education environment and
understanding of comprehensive university fitness and/or mind-body
programs, operations, and services.
- Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum administration and
academic teaching experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of budget and risk management.
