Job Description

This is highly technical and creative position, requiring skills in production and production technology. The person will be responsible for running the production switcher and directing a high level Broadcast Television show. They will work in the production control room, studio, and edit bay or in the field, ensuring audio and video quality match internal and external standards. Will assist in helping staff and students to trouble shoot systems and provide guidance on proper control room and studio production techniques

Essential Duties

  • Serve as the technical and creative lead for show production.
  • Work with a Sony 8000 production switcher, setup Sony cameras and be able to read video scopes.
  • Prepare all broadcast control room and studio devices for daily broadcast operations.
  • Determine if equipment is functioning properly; perform adjustments and minor maintenance on equipment as needed.
  • Set-up, adjust and check studio camera equipment to maintain proper picture quality for broadcasting.
  • Respond for emergency situations as technical difficulties arise; determine proper response and repair equipment or notify proper senior team members.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Six years technical directing in a professional broadcast control room for news production. Additional years’ experience operating broadcast systems including; production switcher, audio consoles, graphics systems, video servers, studio cameras and field equipment; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Two or four year degree in broadcast TV, digital media or IT.
  • Evidence of specific skills in broadcast Technology and production and or IT based video systems.
  • Technical directing experience in a professional broadcast control room for news production, providing leadership for the show. (6 years)
  • Evidence of effective communications skills.
  • Experience in working with staff and students in a deadline oriented production and news environment. Demonstrated knowledge of video switcher, television camera, audio console and studio lighting operations and set-up.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in operation of digital video recorders and players. Demonstrated knowledge of broadcasting standards and practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of production technique

 

Working Environment

Our facility is located in downtown Phoenix, one of the downtown campuses of ASU. Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended period of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time. Regular activities require ability to quickly changing priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Must clearly communicate to perform essential functions. Drive ASU vehicle to and from events. Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
