Description
Description: The Student Advocacy and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Engagement Coordinator provides dynamic leadership, support and facilitation related to student advocacy, engagement and retention. This role will create, evaluate, and support short and long-term programming centered around belonging and inclusion for underrepresented student populations at Carrol University.



Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and evaluate all components and planned activities relating to student mentoring and engagement coming from the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (e.g., INSPIRE Program)

  • Proactively collaborate with university-wide departments, faculty, and staff to advocate, identify, and meet the academic and social needs of those students involved in DEI mentoring and engagement programs.

  • Coordinate and facilitate signature INSPIRE Program initiatives, including, but not limited to Summer Orientation, Pioneer Bridge, First Year Pio Mentoring Program and Mid-Semester Resource Fair.

  • Provide high touch support and serve as the student's main contact and resource with a focus on advising, mentoring and connecting students to resources that will assist with their academic, social and personal well-being

  • Maintain a high degree of visibility and availability to students and faculty advisors; conduct any future workshops with faculty advisors to share best practices for working with a diverse student population.

  • Facilitates workshops in multi-modalities on a range of topics related to academic success skills, financial literacy, career development, and goal setting as part of DEI programming.

  • Partner with staff in DEI Office to provide additional oversight of the identity and cultural-based undergraduate and graduate student organizations and offer individual and group mentoring and guidance.

  • Manages operational budget associated with mentoring and engagement programs, including University allocation and direct Alumni donations.

  • Collaborate with members of the Carroll community (faculty, staff, and students) to promote diversity, inclusion and create cultural co-curricular opportunities for students (e.g., Civil Rights Pilgrimage).

  • As designated, supervise professional and/or student staff

  • Serve on University committees as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:



    Education and/or Experience:

  • Master's degree preferred

  • 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience in diversity, social justice or student affairs related field

  • Bilingual professional experience preferred.

    Technology Skills:

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and relevant online platforms

  • Database management

  • Familiarity with Social media outlets

    Human Relations Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively across all functional areas of the campus, including faculty, staff, and senior administration

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with leadership, management, students, parents, faculty and staff through a consultative, collaborative and active problem solving approach.

  • Sensitivity to the needs of students, parents and colleagues.

  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with students and their families when appropriate.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, organize work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment.

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Excellent professional judgement.

    Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

  • Must have valid motor vehicle license and be insurable under the University's insurance plan.
