Job Summary
The Provost, as the chief academic officer, fulfills the mission and goals of the College by providing leadership, vision, and overall management of the College’s academic affairs in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Essential Functions

A. Responsible for advancing the College mission throughout academic support units.

  • Articulates the mission of the College on and off campus.
  • Provides visionary leadership.
  • Represents academic information and proposals to the President. Governing Board. and other College leaders.

B.   Oversees the planning, development, coordination, and improvement of the College’s curriculum.

  • Reviews regularly course offerings and learning outcomes.
  • Ensures curriculum is relevant to the College mission and meets accreditation standards.
  • Attends program advisory board meetings and consults regularly with faculty. students, and the community to identify curricular needs.
  • Works with faculty to modify and develop curriculum in response to identified needs.

C.   Serves as a member of the President’s leadership team; contributes to the development of college-wide strategic goals, operational and capital budget requests; college wide operations.

  • Participates in the development and achievement of college-wide strategic goals.
  • Participates in the development of the college-wide operational and capital budget requests.
  • Attends Governing Board meetings and provides input as necessary on issues affecting areas of assigned responsibility.
  • Assists with college-wide operations and services to provide a unified service-oriented system.
  • Serves as the administrator-on-call as requested.
  • Serves on committees as assigned.

D.  Oversees and coordinates work of the faculty and academic support staff.

  • Approves qualifications of new full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty.
  • Recommends rank promotion of full-time faculty to President.
  • Chairs or delegates the authority to chair meetings of the faculty or Program Chairs.
  • Coordinates the work of the faculty and staff to achieve operating efficiencies.
  • Supervises and consults with Academic Deans, Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Medical Library Manager, Office Manager; and Director of Teaching, Learning and Academic Technologies, to provide current and reliable information resources and services.

E.   Promotes and facilitates institutional effectiveness in academic and student support units.

  • Orients, trains, evaluates, and mentors program chairs and directors.
  • Monitors and provides guidance in the unit review process.
  • Makes evidence-based recommendations for program improvement and changes.
  • Contributes to authoring the Annual Report.

F.   Develops and implements academic policies and procedures.

  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to create and revise College policies and procedures.
  • Bases recommendations on systematic evaluation of data.
  • Communicates changes in a clear and timely fashion.
  • Hears grievances and appeals and renders decisions in accordance with College policies.

G.   Recommend and procure needed resources.

  • Prepares operating and capital budget requests for the Academic Support unit.
  • Assists program chairs and unit directors with budget development.
  • Authorizes expenditures within approved program and unit budgets.
  • Evaluates and approves new clinical affiliation agreements.
  • Ensures renewable clinical affiliation agreements remain current and enforceable.

H.   Ensure compliance with institutional and program-specific accrediting standards.

  • Collaborates with program chairs to remain current on program-specific accrediting standards and program compliance.
  • Develops action plans in concert with appropriate stakeholders to remedy areas of partial or non-compliance.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Doctoral preparation required. Experience as a dean or chief academic officer preferred. Must provide evidence of significant teaching, scholarly, and service activities to attain rank. Progressing supervisory experience in a private, non-profit health sciences college preferred. Congenial and able to inspire confidence in others. Strong oral, written. and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills.
