SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Community Coordinator will play an integral role in the Residence Life Office and the residence hall community. This individual will provide support to residential students and residence life student staff, which will require them to work a variety of hours and be on call at least two weekends per month.

The Community Coordinator is a full-time professional live-in position in the division of student affairs. The Community Coordinator facilitates the social and educational aspects of residence life to ensure students live in a safe and developmental environment. They work collaboratively with staff and administrators to identify and resolve any issues or concerns that could negatively impact the holistic development of students who live on campus. The successful candidate will serve as a leadership figure and role model to students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Uphold the Flagler College mission and vision and support the implementation of the campus-wide, student affairs, and diversity strategic plans.
  • Serves as a contact in roommate conflicts
  • Coordinates and supervises monthly room inspections in designated buildings for health and safety purposes.
  • Assists with coordinating the opening and closing of residence halls, including key distribution.
  • Residence Life Student Staff
    • Assists with the selection, training and hiring of Resident Advisors
    • Schedules and conducts monthly staff meetings with duty groups and residence hall student staff
    • Coordinates a minimum of one Staff Development activity per term
    • Assist Resident Advisors with programming
  • Implements crisis management procedures if/when the need arises.
  • Identifies students who may require counseling.
  • Attend staff meetings as needed
  • Supervise Work Study Students
  • Maintains open communication with students.
  • Assist in disciplinary issues as they arise
  • Aid in retention by offering increase student care within the residence halls, the ability to develop stronger relationships with students and offering weekend programming.
  • Participates in on-call Rotation
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assists in the day-to-day operations of Student Affairs
  • Committee assignments as needed
  • Performs such other college-related duties as may be required by the Director of RISE, Dean of Student Affairs, or Vice President of Student Affairs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree required.
  • An understanding of and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Ability to understand the needs of students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships with students, faculty, and staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong management and organizational skills
  • 1-2 years of graduate or professional experience in residence life, campus programming, academic support services, and/or counseling services. Student affairs experience with an emphasis on leadership development strongly preferred
  • 1 or more years of advising students on personal and academic matters
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends
  • Ability to interact and develop working relationships with students
  • Ability to effectively manage student staff and student volunteer organizations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exhibit good judgement in making decisions concurrent with College policy.
CHARACTERISTICS PREFERRED
  • Ability to adjust quickly to changing needs on a daily basis.
  • Ability to apply strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships amongst diverse populations including staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters degree in appropriate field
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to train and evaluate performance, taking corrective action as needed
  • American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certification or equivalent
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involved sitting most of the time and occasionally walking and standing.
  • Climbing, walking, crouching, repetitive motions, and ability to communicate appropriately with students/colleagues.
  • Occasional hours outside the normal College work day to attend events, specifically nights and weekends.
