DISABILITY AND BASE PROGRAM COORDINATOR

 

 

Bridgewater College is seeking a Disability and BASE Program Coordinator. The Bridgewater Academic and Social Experience (BASE) program at Bridgewater College is a student-centered, individual support program for students on the autism spectrum or other students who feel they may benefit from the support provided.  This is a full-time (12-month) position. The position reports to the Director of Academic Support and Disability Services.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Coordinate Disability Services support:
  • Facilitate communication and distribution of students’ accommodation letters
  • Oversee class notes requests and monitor notes uploads
  • Convert files for students if needed
  • Acquire books in alternative formats for specified students
  • Secure sign language interpreters if needed
  • Coordinate Testing for students with accommodations (correspondence, scheduling, proctors, obtaining tests, monitoring times, reports, etc.)
  • Provide instruction and guidance for students in the Accessible Information Management (AIM) software system
  • Facilitate the BASE Program:
  • Research and implement current and best practices in working with a neuro-diverse population
  • Provide support to a neuro-diverse population, including transition support, academic support, social support, vocational support, residential support, counseling support, and parent support
  • Work collaboratively with campus departments to provide resources and support and to promote an inclusive transition and experience in college.
  • Oversee a peer mentorship program, which includes trainings, check-ins, and collaboration.  Implement current and best practices for peer mentorship
  • Oversee student work experience opportunities
  • Connect students to appropriate resources such as the Director of Academic Support and Disability Services for formal accommodations if needed
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain relationships with students in the program
  • Develop and maintain family engagement
  • Represent and promote the BASE Program to potential students and families (Open Houses, High School Visits, etc.)
  • Neuro-diversity trainings for faculty and staff
  • Collaborate with the Office of DEI to promote neuro-diversity awareness and acceptance
  • May need to work up to one to two evenings per month

    • Ability to independently manage a variety of projects Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Qualities of informed judgement, self-motivation, and a high degree of responsibility, accountability, confidentiality, and excellent communication skills that are honest and collaborative
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
    • Commitment to working with and supporting students from diverse backgrounds Experience with Accessible Information Management (AIM) software preferred

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or closely related field is required. Previous work with secondary or post-secondary autism spectrum disorder and neurodiverse students is required.
