The Randall Library Information Technology and Systems department deliver a broad range of technology and systems support and services for library users (students, staff, faculty, and community visitors) and library operations. The Library provides a significant and expanding online presence, including online search and discovery, research support, information literacy, and digital library services. Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Digital Makerspace Technician will support the Digital Makerspace Coordinator in the daily operations of the Digital Makerspace, with a focus on training and supervising a growing number of student work assistants.

The Digital Makerspace Technician will assist with implementing new services and technology and will participate in improving existing procedures such as technology lending and makerspace scheduling. The DMS Technician will assist the DMS Coordinator in instruction such as training appointments, demonstrations, and workshops. As a member of the Randall Library Information
Technology and Systems department, this position works in collaboration with Library IT, campus ITS, liaison librarians, and others to explore the application of technology to
learning and research.

Key responsibilities include (not limited to)
Manage the inventory levels of consumable materials and re-order as necessary to ensure there is no downtime of 3D printers or laser cutters. Provide consultations on digital media and fabrication to students, faculty, and staff. Maintain DMS equipment, machines, and documentation. . Supervise, train, schedule, and assist with hiring student employees.

The primary duties of the position include
Student employee supervision will include answering questions, following up on projects, and advanced troubleshooting student employee questions. This position will also train student employees on Digital Makerspace equipment, policy, and procedure. This position will be required to maintain, repair, operate, and assemble equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, 3D scanners, and Virtual Reality headsets. This position will also instruct during consultations, workshops, and classes as needed in conjunction with the DMS Coordinator.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from high school and one year in the field of technology related to the positions’ role. Computer coursework may be substituted year for year for the required experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply emerging technologies and effectively assist others in learning them
  • Demonstrated knowledge of makerspace-related or advanced technologies and equipment, for example: 3D printing, 3D modeling, laser cutters, graphic editing, video editing, virtual reality, and augmented reality
  • Experience hiring, training, supervising, and inspiring a team of student employees
  • Experiencing implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting advanced or makerspace technologies and equipment
  • Experience developing training programs
  • Bachelor’s degree and knowledge in the field of technology related to the position’s role
  • Demonstrated familiarity with 3D printing and computers
  • Demonstrated experience with conducting training
