Position Information

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

Conditions of Employment

The salary range for this classification is: $4,304.00 - $6,120.00 monthly.

Major Duties

Under general supervision of the Director Educational Opportunity Program, the incumbent will support programs and services offered as part of the university's college retention and success initiatives. Additionally, the incumbent supports and advises students, provides advising interventions, makes recommendations on individual cases to resolve student problems within established parameters, regulations, and guidelines, and connects EOP and other special program including Toro Guardian Scholars (TGS) students to resources that will contribute to academic success. Furthermore, the incumbent will collaborate with other EOP advisors, TGS unit, and campus partners, to plan, coordinate, and implement one-on-one and interactive group workshops designed specifically to support student success.

Qualifications

Required Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Required Experience: Equivalent of 2 years of professional experience in related area. Masters degree in related area may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.

Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi‑aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. 50% Admissions Support the Lead EOP Coordinator with the EOP Admissions process: Coordination and facilitation of EOP Information Sessions, assisting with communication of EOP applicants, reviewing and scoring applications. Essential Edit Remove 15% Outreach Represent EOP at all Outreach yield events at Dominguez Hills, attend community outreach events at high schools such as college fairs and other tabling events. Facilitate EOP presentations at high school outreach events, assisting high school students with the CalState Apply and EOP application process, building relationships with neighboring and local high schools to recruit special populations of students including foster youth, African American Students etc. Serve as the EOP Outreach liaison on campus Essential Edit Remove 15% Advising/Academic Support Develop curriculum for Special Admit students to complete in their first year at Dominguez Hills, in conjunction with the Lead EOP Coordinator. Meet with Special Admit students for additional academic support through one-on-one check-in meetings throughout the first year. Develop and facilitate workshops and other materials to support the academic development of the Special Admit population. Provides academic advisement and information on University policies, procedures, and graduation requirements to the undergraduate student population. - Supports students in timely degree completion. - Provides information related to student aptitudes, interests and abilities to ensure proficiency - Supports a caseload of undergraduate students by providing clear action steps for degree completion. Essential - Support students in navigating their academic plan while connecting them to the on-campus support network - Keeps open lines of communication with campus partners on policies and procedures affecting EOP and former foster youth. - Provides feedback on student concerns and needs; and stays up to date on policy updates and procedures affecting this population.
