SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York.  The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs.  An additional 1,600 students are served through the College’s workforce and non-credit programs.

Job Description:

SUNY Broome Community College is seeking candidates for the Assistant Dean for Academic Services who will report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), and is primarily responsible for the administration of a comprehensive service for wrap-around services designed to support student success and completion.  Overseeing the areas of advisement, retention, coaching, learning resources (tutoring and learning support labs), student access, and transfer and career services, the Assistant Dean will ensure that students have a success team available for support.  The Assistant Dean for Academic Services is responsible for initiating all short, intermediate, and long-range planning for overall student success and completion, and supervision of the staff assigned to these areas.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides leadership, direction, and focus to the services offered and coordinates these services with other campus departments. Remains current with issues and developments in the field in order to provide innovative directions for the services. Supervises faculty and staff assigned to the Learning Assistance Department (including the Accessibility Resources Office, Math Lab, Writing Center, and Tutoring Services & Supplemental Instruction), Career and Transfer, Academic Advising, Coaching, and Retention.  Determines work priorities, delegates tasks, and evaluates work efforts. Works closely with Deans and Department Chairs to collaborate on student support activities. Maintains open lines of communication with all student serving departments. Develops and oversees the annual budget for the following areas:  Accessibility Office, Career and Transfer, Academic Advising, Coaching, and Retention. Represents the campus by maintaining contacts with employers and community agencies. Serves on various committees as needed or recommended by the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA). Works with Enrollment Management to coordinate student registration events. Works with the team to provide wrap-around support services for students. Coordinates assessment within the departments and develop strategies for improvement. Prepares the Annual Report and provides other data as required by administration, department chairpersons, and Institutional Effectiveness. Revises, updates, and publishes departmental publications as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA).

Requirements:

A Master’s degree in Counseling, Career Services, Human Resources, Administration, or a related field is required.

Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in higher education is required.

Exhibits demonstrated leadership abilities.

Knowledge of the use of software as a tool for academic services, experience working with faculty and students, technical skills, and demonstrated knowledge of innovative and best practices are strongly preferred.

Additional Information:

The minimum annual salary for this position is $80,577.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
