A.T. Still University's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) invites applications for an exempt Assistant/Associate Professor, OPP Faculty on the Mesa, Arizona campus. This OPP faculty member provides high quality education in Osteopathic Principles and Practice and ATSU-SOMA’s integrated curriculum including anatomy, medical skills, and case-based inquiry small group sessions.

Job Duties:

  1. Instruction:
    1. Work collaboratively with the OPP team, Associate/Assistant Deans for Innovation and Curricular Integration, Course Directors, faculty, and staff to support ATSU-SOMA’s self-directed small group integrative curricular model.
    2. Provide OPP didactics and table training .
    3. Assist with developing Y1 and Y2 OPP courses.
    4. Assist with creating and administering OPP Y1 and Y2 practical and written examinations.
    5. Monitor mandatory attendance events and alert the course director(s) of unplanned student absences.
    6. Mentor OPP Fellows in education, scholarly activities, and clinical skills.
    7. Assist with other duties and functions as needed/assigned by the OPP Chair.
  2. Accreditation:
    1. Promote and preserve the mission of ATSU-SOMA.
    2. Participate in and support committee meetings as assigned.
  3. Service to the ATSU and ATSU-SOMA
    1. Participate in designated institutional activities.
    2. Serve on ATSU and SOMA committees
    3. Support OPP department in its role of achieving ATSU’s strategic plan as well as ATSU-SOMA’s strategic plan (2021-2028)
  4. Scholarly Activities:
    1. Search and apply for grant funding to support new initiatives and research related to OPP.
    2. Co-investigate and participate in research activities as requested.
    3. Engage in scholarly activities to disseminate OPP curricular innovations and research, ideally through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at local, state, national, and international levels.
  5. General:
    1. Effectively communicate and interact with students, staff, faculty, and leadership
    2. Act as a departmental representative with students, staff, leadership, and visitors in a professional, friendly manner.
    3. Maintain FERPA confidentiality and security of student data in accordance with applicable law and Institutional Policies and Procedures.
    4. May include Osteopathic patient care and/or supervision of OPP fellows in the ATSU Osteopathic Medicine Center Arizona.


Faculty member will be contribute to the supervision of OPP Fellows. This may include oversight of teaching responsibilities, practical and written examinations, clinical duties, and scholarly activities.

Skills/Requirements:
  • D.O. degree with completion of a neuromusculoskeletal residency program
  • Board eligible or board certified in Osteopathic Manipulative Med
  • 1 to 2 years proficiency in osteopathic manipulative medicine
  • Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
  • Maintain an established work schedule
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to understand, assess, and use professional judgment
  • Ability to set priorities, project deadlines, and meet deadlines ensuring accurate output
  • Demonstrate initiative in being proactive, anticipating needs, and completing tasks accurately
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact on a professional level with administration, faculty, students, and staff
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to changed priorities
  • Ability to work in a team environment and/or independently
  • Effective use of diplomacy, tact, and judgment
