Position Description

11-month position with the month of July off

Position Summary
The Ecumenical and Multifaith Campus Minister plays a key role on the Campus Ministry team by serving the spiritual needs of students from a wide variety of religious, secular and spiritual identities and promoting ecumenical and interfaith dialogue. This position provides programmatic and leadership support for the Jewish Student Union, Muslim Student Association, Eco-Sangha Zen Buddhist group, as well as several on-campus Christian clubs.

Enhance the education and spiritual development of students through ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue to help foster respect for and understanding of different faith traditions and Christian denominations; develop prayer and worship services, Bible studies, and other opportunities for students to explore their spirituality.

Essential Job Functions
The Ecumenical and Multifaith Campus Minister facilitates the registration process for Seattle University religious and spiritual clubs and provides oversight and support to the groups and their off-campus advisors. Mentor and advise students in club leadership positions in partnership with the Assistant Director of the Center for Student Involvement.

Develop peer support and student leadership in all programs through supervision of the Student Campus Minister for Religious Diversity and mentoring of other student leaders. Collaborate with the Campus Ministry liturgy team to facilitate the annual service observing the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity as well as the annual Interfaith Prayer for Peace.

Attend to the spiritual well-being and development of students as needed, including pastoral care for students, spiritual accompaniment/direction, and caring for students in crisis.

Work collaboratively with the faculty and staff across the university and cultivate relationships with local clergy and worshipping communities.

Marginal Job Functions
Participate as a member of the Campus Ministry team, which may include participation in retreats and/or leadership on a short-term domestic or international immersion experience with students. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, Master's in Theology, Divinity, or comparable graduate degree.

Two years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above.

Familiarity with young adult faith development, and the ability to draw students into reflection to explore and deepen their faith.

Must have working knowledge of Christian ecumenism and world religions.

Experience in program development and management as well as event planning and group leadership.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse populations.

All candidates must show a demonstrated commitment to diversity and the university's mission, vision, and values. Ability to contribute to the religious, secular, and spiritual diversity as well as the Catholic and Jesuit character of Seattle University.

Preferred Qualifications
Ordination in the Christian tradition.
