Introduction (Description of School/College/Dept/Program)
The Helen Bader School of Social Welfare is comprised of the Department of Social Work and the Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology. Accredited by the CSWE, the School offers a BSW in Social Work, a Master’s in Social Work, and a PhD in Social Welfare that prepares students for work as faculty members, researchers, and leaders in social work. The Helen Bader School of Social Welfare has strong collaborations across social welfare, child welfare and health care community organizations.

Job Summary
The Helen Bader School of Social Welfare is starting a new Online MSW Program in Fall 2022 and is seeking to fill a critical new position for the continuing development and growth of the program. Due to the developing nature of the program, we seek a person with a background in social work higher education who can competently fulfill multiple roles and responsibilities within the areas of program coordination, online curriculum development and instruction, recruitment, admissions, advising and field placement functions. The successful applicant needs to be able to interact professionally with students, faculty, and staff both inside and outside the University. The position does require some flexibility for scheduling including occasional evenings and weekend time.Additionally, the position allows the possibility for the incumbent to eventually teach in the online program as student census grows and the addition of other program positions allows.

The position is a full-time, 12-month position and reports to the MSW Program Coordinator. There may be flexibility in work location and hybrid work option with primary base being on UWM campus. Besides the duties listed in the Standard Job Description: Job Library | UW System Human Resources (wisconsin.edu), other duties include:

  • Take a leadership role in continued growth and development of UWM's Online MSW Program
  • Facilitate recruitment, admissions, advising and other student support services for Online Program students
  • Partner with Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, UWM campus, and other stakeholders in the strategic marketing of the Online MSW Program
  • Serve as acting Field Liaison for Online MSW Program students: develop placement relationships and sites, assess student needs and professional interests regarding field placement and pursue potential placement referrals in collaboration with the Social Work Field team
  • Assist and support the online course development process, collaborating with campus stakeholders and 3rd party course design company
  • Assist and support the tracking and monitoring of student data and outcomes related to CSWE standards, as well as campus and departmental data needs with regard to the Online MSW Program
  • Interface as a team member of the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, the Social Work Department, the MSW Program and the Social Work Field Department


Minimum Qualifications
  • MSW degree from a program accredited by CSWE required
  • Ability to navigate and fulfill a variety of roles in support of program goals, program growth and student engagement and learning.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in Social Work higher education
  • A minimum of 2 years post-MSW social work practice experience
  • State credential as an APSW or higher preferred
  • Proficient with a variety of technology and software systems, able to learn new technology as necessary
  • Interest in developing a working knowledge of online learning best practices for higher education
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Good written and verbal communication skills as evidenced in application materials
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of online learning best practices
  • Familiarity with CSWE standards and competencies
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, One Drive, Teams), as well as Zoom, Canvas, PAWS, etc.
  • Experience as an agency-based field instructor and/or university-based field education liaison
