The University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) is currently accepting applications for a full-time Clinical Faculty – Nurse Practitioner in the department of Partnerships, Professional Education and Practice. This position will be located at the UMMC Midtown Campus.

A licensed independent provider (LIP) responsible for diagnosing and treating patients independently and in collaboration with colleagues. P rovides continuity of patient care by facilitating and coordinating communication between the health care team, patient, and patients’ families. Coordinates care to ensure quality, effective care, and patient safety. Serves as a link to integrating relevant services, both internal and community-based, consistent with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Triple Aim of better health, better care, and lower cost. Acts as a liaison between the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) and the University of Maryland School of Nursing. Serves as a clinical faculty member teaching University of Maryland Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students in all areas of the nurse practitioner role and other University of Maryland, Baltimore undergraduate and graduate students as requested.

UMB does not require proof of COVID-19 vaccination. However, faculty and staff whose job duties require them to work in clinical settings or at clinical or field sites continue to be subject to the vaccine requirements of those sites. In these cases, proof of vaccination and requests for accommodations will continue to be administered through the University.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide appropriate care to all patients including patient history, physical examination, ordering and interpreting clinical testing, developing patient treatment plans, referral to alternate care setting or clinicians as appropriate. Promote preventative health and track gaps in care. Assess patient for potential risk factors. Recognize and integrate patient special needs and individualizes care using an interdisciplinary approach. Integrate pain management and supportive care issues in the plan of care as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate medical records using the approved EMR system. Comply with policies and procedures and customer service metrics.
  • Take calls from patients and providers and provide appropriate information to assist in the expedited delivery of services. Assist patients with the understanding of their condition with a goal of patient self-management.
  • Lead a team-based approach to care that fosters mentorship, education, etc. The team may be comprised of physicians, RN care managers, pharmacists, social workers, community health workers, medical assistants and/or other clinical professionals.
  • Ensure that services are provided in the most cost effective manner and clinically appropriate setting to limit the avoidable utilization in the hospital. Participate in readmission reduction initiatives and strategies to reduce hospital utilization.
  • Use an interdisciplinary team approach to ensure comprehensive care delivery across the continuum to meet the needs of the patient and family through assessment and evaluation of actual and emerging patient and/or significant other’s physical, educational and emotional needs. Maintain communication with other clinicians to ensure highly coordinated and efficient care. In conjunction with care team, conduct periodic review of medical records to determine efficiency of care and ensure that all care delivered is appropriate.
  • Maintain a high profile with the medical staff by working closely with other care providers, as appropriate, to ensure that hospitals needs are being met for cost effective quality care. Communicate regularly with the medical staff and community providers to ensure patients have timely access to care and efficient care coordination.
  • In conjunction with care team, conduct periodic review of medical records to determine efficiency of care and ensure that all care delivered is appropriate. Actively participate in workgroups and/or committees within the center, Population Health, and UMMC that align with the hospital and department goals.
  • Comply with all provider requirements within the scope of practice. Perform complete, focused history and physical as needed. Order appropriate diagnostic studies. Consult with team to determine appropriate medical management and follow-up. Complete treatment orders as needed within scope of practice. Respond in an emergency situation, initiate care until physician or 911 response arrives.
  • Seek opportunities for professional growth: Attain continuing education programs relevant to areas of practice and licensure. Maintain knowledge of current literature and research applicable to practice.
  • Comply with all billing requirements of UMMC.
  • Demonstrate professionalism; competence and open communication style; high integrity; energy, creativity, diplomacy, and flexibility.
  • Lead by example; maintain high personal standards for patient, family and provider satisfaction.
  • Instruct students through a variety of instructional methods including lecture, one-on-one mentoring, problem-based learning, team-based learning, case-based learning, small group learning and online teaching.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding clinical, curricular and professional matters.
  • Evaluate student clinical progression in collaboration with primary course faculty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :

Education and Experience:
  • Doctoral degree with completion of a family, adult, or adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner program. Doctor of Nursing Practice preferred.
  • National certification in the area specialty and licensed by the Maryland Board of Nursing. Eligible for credentialing as a nurse practitioner.
  • NPI number, DEA and CDS required.
  • BLS required; ACLS preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a nurse practitioner.
  • Experience teaching and/or precepting nurse practitioner students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty.
  • Demonstrate superior knowledge of the multidisciplinary care management process and continuum of care, emerging care issues and trends including application of new technology, and outcomes management.
  • Visual acuity and auditory fine motor skills are required.
  • Ability to:

Other:

This position will be assigned to Midtown to under a professional Services Agreement between Midtown and UMSON. Midtown will bill and collect third-party reimbursement for care provided by the NP based on the NP’s status as a leased employee
