Job Description Summary
The Plumber repairs or replaces plumbing fixtures, install sinks and disposals and perform all maintenance plumbing on the University campus. Perform repair and preventive maintenance on all campus plumbing systems.
Alternate/extended shifts may be required for events support, equipment repair, work scheduling conflicts, etc. Participation in emergency response rotation as assigned. This position requires an alternate work schedule as follows: Sunday-Thursday (7-4) or Tuesday – Saturday (7-4).
Responsibilities
Applicants for Staff and Administrator positions must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Chapman University does not sponsor applicants for Staff and Administrator positions for work visas.
Valid California driver’s license and a clear, unrestricted DMV record; a DMV report will be required prior to and periodically during employment.
The offer of employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion and outcomes of a criminal background screening and DMV driving clearance. and upon you accepting and returning a signed original Agreement to Arbitrate.

Responsibilities
- Repair or replace faucets, sinks, garbage disposals, toilets, shower valves, etc. Unclog showers toilets and sinks.
- Clear and maintain storm drains and roof drains, pipe replacement. Monitor and maintain all of the permanent sump pumps on campus, use of drain snakes to clear sewer lines.
- Maintain clear filter operation at all campus fountains.
- Assist with rain leak emergencies including sand bagging, roof leak repair and follow-up maintenance
- Assist other trades as needed.
- Perform repair and preventive maintenance on all campus plumbing systems.
- Journey level experience in all aspects of new plumbing installation and repair.
- Journey level knowledge and experience of plumbing tools such as electric snakes, pipe threaders, torches, spanner wrenches and other basic tools of the trade.
- Ability to maintain a clean and safe work area at all work locations including field locations, boiler rooms, Facilities shop and break room.
- Ability to work in a variety of physical environments including on ladders, man-lifts, etc with heights up to 30 feet.
- Knowledge of safe driving practices as defined by the California DMV and University policies
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to safe working practices as defined by industry and regulatory standards
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written with all levels of the campus community and business contacts.
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere.
- Interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of individuals at all levels within and out of the University.
- Ability to learn and interpret university and department policies and procedures.
- Technical skills to learn and use work order systems and departmental online tools.
- Certified, licensed back-flow technician.
