Assistant Director- Athletics Communications
About the Opportunity
Position Summary:
Under general supervision of the Associate Athletics Director for Communications, Public Relations & Broadcasting and in conjunction with the goals and vision of the Director of Athletics, this position supports an athletics communications program that successfully promotes Northeastern student-athletes, coaches and athletics in all appropriate venues and that increases both public participation in local, state and national recognition of Northeastern athletics.
Responsibilities include:
- Assists in hiring, training, scheduling and supervising office personnel for sports information, including interns, co-op students, and other part-time staff.
- Assists with budget management and office operations.
- Supports the external affairs department in implementing marketing strategies.
- Monitors and updates the NUHuskies.com website with timely and accurate information, including game accounts, features, announcements and news.
- Will serve as the primary media contact for at least three teams to promote Northeastern athletes, coaches and sports through a variety of media, advertising, promotional, public relations and marketing strategies.
- Prepares and updates external calendars of athletic events and maintains internal calendar to meet deadlines. Travels with Northeastern athletic teams and handles related athletic communication duties on the road.
Qualifications:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in communication, marketing, public relations, broadcasting, journalism, advertising or closely related field required; master's degree in a related field preferred. 2-5 years experience as a student assistant, graduate assistant or professional required, four years preferred, in athletic communications, communications, marketing, public relations or broadcasting. Experience in athletic communications, while not required, is strongly preferred. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and understanding of and follows all applicable NCAA, conference and University rules and regulations.
