Position Overview:

Assist faculty with the design, development, and management of online courses offered. Integrate current educational technologies to promote effective teaching strategies and improve student learning experience. Provide consultation with technical and programmatic development of assigned projects, design and develop effective courses, evaluate the effectiveness of the course design, and provide assistance with planning and coordinating materials. Design online modules, incorporating a variety of web design and instructional tools. Provide online instructor and student tutorials. Monitor and test technologies.

Job Level:

Scope and Impact: This position is an entry level position, with actions that may have a measurable impact on operations within a work group.

Budget Authority: May provide input into budget development by assisting with identification of operational needs and requirements.

Policy and Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for executing routine procedures with direction from senior staff.

Reporting Relationships: Generally reports to manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior level staff members.

Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates ability to execute tasks according to standard operating procedures and/or direction. Demonstrates ability to learn new subject matter, coupled with attention to detail and responsiveness to feedback.

Problem Solving and Judgment: Performs a variety of duties following established policies and procedures. Resolves problems by selecting from approved alternatives based on past practices, established procedures, or direction. Relies on direct supervision and is available to set priorities and objectives, and to assist in problem resolution.

Communication and Interaction: Routinely answers questions and provides information and data requested by individuals within or outside of work area. Questions that require interpretation or are not easily resolved are referred to Supervisor.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Education Technology or related field.

If no degree, this position requires 4+ years of equivalent work experience in Instructional Design that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.

Requires the application of expertise in instructional design to achieve results.

The successful candidate will have:
  • Primary training and skills in the development and delivery of instruction and instructional design.

  • Knowledge and skills of the theory and practice of teaching and learning, with a background in classroom instruction.

  • Extensive secondary skills in technical systems and ability to develop a comprehensive overview of information technology, library, and other instructional resources and personnel.

  • Effective and appropriate communication skills with diverse audiences, including faculty, students, technologists and other support personnel.

  • Ability to perform well in a team-based collaborative environment.

  • Experience in project management, including managing time, establishing priorities, distributing responsibilities, and meeting milestones and deliverables.

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing instructional resources; proven facilitation skills.

  • A track record of ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms.

  • Attention to detail and solid follow-up skills.

  • A strong ability to analyze data and develop reports or documentation.

  • Brightspace/D2L or other learning management system experience.
