Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Executive Director of Summer Programming is responsible for leading the strategy, creation, execution, and operations of Wheaton College’s summer education and pre-college programs. Specifically responsible for identifying opportunities for summer school and pre-college programming that speak to Wheaton’s brand and utilize both physical and intellectual campus resources; collaborating with campus partners to create curriculum and hire faculty, recruiting program participants, and managing professional staff to create and sustain a robust portfolio of financially viable educational programming.

The Executive Director must be creative and entrepreneurial while possessing previous experience in developing successful summer and pre-college educational programming. Inherent in these responsibilities will be comprehensive and timely communication and an ability to meet critical timelines.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of increasingly responsible relevant work experience in summer programming.
  • Leadership experience in higher education programs with secondary and college students.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and collaborating with adult peers on curriculum development and approaches.
  • Must have proven progressively responsible experience in project management, with excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to work independently to solve problems and look for opportunities to take on responsibility that contributes to a successful program.
  • Able to handle confidential information and to inquire with discretion, demonstrate sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks and create solutions to gain sought-after results.
  • Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
  • Ability to interact with various constituencies, as well as colleagues across the institution is essential.
  • Background and experience in developing programs and working with high school students on a college campus.
  • Proficiency using a variety of computer software and systems.
  • Knowledge of trends in the market for higher education, particularly for youth programming
  • Ability to think strategically, understanding how the work of this position fits into the overall goals of the college and how the programs developed can advance the college’s mission.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and multi-task while exercising a high level of attention to detail.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including independent judgment, the ability to relate well to constituents at all levels of the institution, and to demonstrate to others that they are valued.
Preferred Qualifications:

7+ years of increasingly responsible relevant work experience in summer programming.
