Job Summary

The University Libraries encourage applications for a Cloud Engineer! The Research & Innovation Strategies Chapter supports the Libraries' mission by providing access to information in support of research, learning, and personal development. This position resides in the Core Technology and Applications Section, which builds and sustains technologies that advance the libraries. The Cloud Engineer provides infrastructure engineering and operational support for our catalog of products and services. This position uses infrastructure as code and cloud-first principles to develop infrastructure in public and on-premises cloud environments and give technical assistance as a member of the Core Tech & Apps team.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Infrastructure Engineering and Support:
  • Work with team to identify and implement cloud-based solutions for current and new services and web applications.
  • Manage and upgrade Library cloud infrastructure in-line with university standards.
  • Supervise infrastructure health and uptime ensuring availability of applications and services. This will include some evening and weekend hours of support.
  • Ensure appropriate redundancy, backup, restore, and disaster recovery.
  • Provide support for high availability infrastructure.
  • Define and document strategies regarding application deployment, configuration management and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Become the technical expert that is sought for their in-depth knowledge of a broad range of current technologies and how these technologies apply to the organization's cloud environment.
  • Drive setting standards for cloud infrastructure in the organization.
  • Provide mentorship to build cloud competencies in the team.
Technical Architecture:
  • Provide technical analysis, decompose components of the Library ecosystem architecture.
  • Develop a technical architecture and associated multi-month technical roadmap.
  • Incorporate business requirements and architecture design constraints into project content.
  • Work with team members to decompose Epics into Stories (Agile).
Professional Development and Service:
  • Actively engage in professional development activities to expand skills and competencies.
  • Keep current with new developments in the digital library software and digital asset management domains.
  • Attend conferences and workshops related to Library technologies and cloud efforts.
  • Participate on library/campus committees and working groups.
What You Should Know
  • This position is in a remote work situation.
  • Office space is available within Norlin Library if the candidate is interested in working in a hybrid capacity.
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement.

What We Can Offer
  • At the Professional Level (3+ years of professional experience): $82,000 - 105,000.
  • At the Principal Professional Level (5+ years of professional experience): $105,000 - 110,000.

This position may be filled at the Professional Level or the Principal Professional Level.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related field. A combination of education and/or related experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
At the Professional Level:
  • Three years of experience in Linux system administration, DevOps, Site Reliability or similar role which included experience with AWS infrastructure and Kubernetes.
At the Principal Professional Level:
  • Five years of experience in Linux system administration, DevOps, Site Reliability or similar role which included experience with AWS infrastructure and Kubernetes.
What You Will Need
  • Experience with cloud offering, tools, and methodologies.
  • Experience deploying and running workloads in the cloud.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as AWS Cloud Formation, Azure ARM, Terraform, Pulumi.
  • Proficiency with one or more common scripting or programming languages (BASH, Go, Python, TypeScript, etc) to develop scripts for configuration management and automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Excellent social skills.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience with AWS offerings (specifically EKS, S3, IAM, RDS, EC2).
  • Experience maintaining and using monitoring and observability tools.
  • Experience with systems and network security standard methodologies.
  • Experience managing Containers.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
