Assistant Director of Leadership and Experiential Learning



Job Summary: The Assistant Director for Leadership & Experiential Learning is responsible for developing and coordinating programs that engage students in leadership development, experiential learning and skill building. This position will create opportunities for students to translate their experiences into meaningful action through reflection and learning. Duties & Essential Job Functions: 1. Designs, implements and assesses leadership programming consistent with the mission and established learning outcomes of TCU, Student Affairs, and Leadership & Student Involvement. Including, but not limited to, Chancellor’s Leadership Program, Leaders for Life, LeadNOW, and LeaderKids.
2. Oversees the leadership development and growth of students through recruiting, selecting, training, supervising and mentoring student leaders within leadership programs.
3. Assists in leading strengths-based education by developing curriculum, training faculty/staff facilitators, and implementing multilayered opportunities for increasing student knowledge and engagement.
4. Provides support and collaboration with Leadership & Experiential Learning community engagement programming including TCU Day of Service and monthly service opportunities.
5. Assists in the development and implementation of experiential learning opportunities for students to explore values, interests, and skills.
6. Contributes to evaluation and assessment of programs
7. Publicizes department programs by sharing successes and development through campus partnerships and marketing.
8. Serves on cross-departmental and divisional committees to support programming efforts that align with Leadership & Student Involvement and Student Affairs priorities.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience : • Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Services, Leadership Development, or a related field of study.
• 2 years of program management experience in a higher education environment including, but not limited to, advising, teaching, or facilitating student development and experiential education. Preferred Education & Experience: • Experience in developing and implementing leadership programs and/or community engagement.
• Experience in developing and implementing experiential learning and skill development programs. Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: • Valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements. Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training: • None Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Knowledge of customer service techniques.
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Skill in instruction, facilitation, and training techniques.
• Skill in effective public speaking.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to details.
• Skill in effective written and verbal communication of complex information that is accurate, timely and based on sound judgment.
• Ability to apply student development and leadership theory to planning, marketing, and implementing events and programs.
• Ability to demonstrate multicultural competency.
• Ability to advise, mentor, and supervise student leaders.
• Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations): • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and other printed materials and information.
• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, and prolonged sitting.
• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs. Work Environment: • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on-campus, in-person position.
