Context of the job:

The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Delaware is seeking a dynamic strategic leader to serve as the Director of the newly formed School Success Center. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative leader to work with schools and school districts, with combined resources of leadership and content specialists, to enhance and grow the services provided to K-12 partners.

The School Success Center (SSC) is a professional learning, research translation, and policy center that aims to improve public education in the K-12 community. With centers located in Newark, DE and Georgetown, DE, SSC provides district administrators, school leaders, and teachers with high-quality professional development and coaching and advocates for evidenced-based education practices and policies. The SSC supports a dedicated team of roughly 30 full time and part-time education professionals and maintains several school and community partnerships in Delaware and increasingly across the country.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development, the Director serves as a liaison between UD faculty, staff, and the education communities served by SSC and is responsible for oversight of the daily administration of the center including, but not limited to, supervision of full-time and part-time staff and integration of faculty fellows into the continuous improvement processes as well as program and fiscal management.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide vision and direction for the Center.
  • Assess and assure the quality of programs and services provided by the Center.
  • Manage, oversee, and evaluate the performance of the Center's professional and administrative staff.
  • Manage the Center's budgets, including identification of potential reductions to the budget and generation of significant new revenue streams for the Center, including securing external funding to support the work of the Center.
  • Support the Center's professionals in their design and delivery of high quality, innovative, and learner-centered professional development experiences for educators, including face-to-face and on-line experiences.
  • Represent the Center and the College to entities within and external to the University of Delaware including serving in leadership roles in professional education associations at the state and national level.
  • Support and advance the mission and reputation of the College and University.
  • Build the collaborative bridges between the content area professionals and the leadership professionals to a college center, including, but not limited to, the development of a vision statement, mission statement, and Center norms.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in Education/Special Education/Ed. Leadership or closely related field with at least five years' experience in a directly related field.
  • Five years of experience successfully leading a team.
  • Supervisory/leadership experience in curriculum adoption and development, professional learning, and assessment design.
  • Experience with fiscal and operational management in an organization.
  • Grant writing experience.
  • Effective organization and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated competency in current evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Ability to provide professional development and technical guidance in integrating new curriculum and evidence-based instructional strategies into the classroom.
  • Ability to problem-solve, implement, and evaluate solutions.
  • Program planning and organizational skills.
  • Experience as a school and district administrator with a strong record of instructional leadership, organizational improvement efforts, developing, supervising, and mentoring educators preferred.
  • Experience with district strategic planning and school board governance structures
  • Experience with district and school equity reviews/audits
  • Knowledge of state certification regulations and requirements for administrative certification programs
  • Experience delivering professional development in schools, or at state and national conferences.
  • Experience working in low-performing urban and rural schools with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge about state and national regulations and policies related to professional standards for educational leaders, principal pipeline and preparation, succession planning, performance appraisal systems for educators, working conditions for school leaders, and curriculum standards.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating School Improvement Plans.
  • Knowledge of and experience with coaching Teacher Leaders and Professional Learning Communities in data driven decision-making.
  • Experience in turnaround schools is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully connect with various stakeholders of diverse backgrounds such as faculty/staff, state department, district, and school administrators, district and state board members, teachers, parents, and community members.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office products and Google Apps with the ability to conduct statistical analyses, write reports, and prepare professional presentations.

Special Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel in-state and out-of-state with short notice, sometimes for a week
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
