Description

The Stan Richards School of Advertising & Public Relations in the Moody College of

Communication at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an Area Head for Texas

Creative. Texas Creative is one of the top creative advertising

portfolio programs in the world. Founded in 1979, the Texas

Creative curriculum emphasizes big ideas, conceptual thinking, collaboration, and portfolio

development through a series of elective courses and seminars. The purpose of Texas Creative

is to prepare students for an art director, copywriter, and maker positions in advertising

upon graduation.

General Notes: The Area Head for Texas Creative is an open rank faculty position within the School.

The Area Head is a proven leader, mentor, and motivator and is responsible for the management of Texas Creative. The

ideal candidate is both strategic and creative, an effective communicator, and solution-oriented,

but most importantly a positive inspirational leader focused on the future development of the industry.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record of mentoring diverse creative talent and has at least 5 years

of experience as a creative director at an advertising agency or creative marketing company.

The Area Head will manage day-to-day operations for Texas Creative, including the application process, events, and

activities and collaborate with faculty instructors in support of project deliverables and student

outcomes. They will provide mentorship to Texas Creative faculty and over 120 students in the

program. The Area Head is responsible for identifying and onboarding adjunct

instructors. They will collaborate with advisors and staff to ensure all portfolio classes are rightsized

and staffed appropriately. In addition, the Area Head is responsible for maintaining

and developing relationships with recruiters and creative leaders at top agencies/creative

companies around the country. They also support fundraising for Texas Creative and

managing the business development operating budget.

Responsibilities:

Teaching

  • Develop curricular and course content

  • Teach portfolio classes each semester during the academic year

    Operational - Administrative

  • Implement mission and vision for Texas Creative

  • Implement diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) plans for Texas Creative

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for potential and current students

  • Coordinate and oversee the recruitment of students

  • Coordinate Texas Creative Recruiter Week including identifying and inviting agency

    recruiters and creative leaders

  • Coordinate the Portfolio Reviews at the end of each semester including inviting senior

    agency creative leaders to critique portfolios.

  • Meet with other sequence coordinators or area heads and the School Director monthly

  • Meet with the School's Extended Budget Council (EBC) at least once a semester.

  • Update the School Director and EBC on a regular basis

    Curriculum and Faculty - Administrative

  • Assist the School Director in the development of course planning and schedule building, with recommendations for faculty assignments

  • Schedule and conduct regular meetings of the program faculty and support staff (if any)

  • Evaluate faculty within the area

  • Review and approve course syllabi for each class each semester

    Budget and Financial - Administrative

  • Act as a cost center manager for the program budget

    External Outreach - Administrative

  • Serve as the liaison and boundary spanner between the School's program and various

    stakeholders, including program alumni, program guests, industry recruiters and creative

    hiring managers

  • Create extracurricular programming for program students as well as for the School

  • Serve as a fundraiser for the program, building strong linkages between donors and the

    academic program

  • Assist with alumni relations

    Programming - Administrative

  • Create and maintain the visibility of the program via School social media, school, and

    college websites, etc.

  • Attend professional conferences

  • Attend and recommend student award shows

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Fine Arts or Related Field

  • Experience engaging with higher education instruction or training in some capacity (e.g.,

    adjunct role, guest lecturing, mentoring students, supervision of interns)

  • 5+ years in a creative senior leadership role

  • Experience developing creative brand strategies and guiding 360 creative campaigns

  • Strong client relationships and experience working with executives

  • Experience managing/supervising senior creative talent

  • Experience operating in cross-functional organizations

  • Experience mentoring and developing new creative talent

  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for all marketing functions including

    strategy, creative, account, media, promotion/marketing comms/promotional PR,

    experiential and production.

  • Demonstrated passion for outstanding, innovative creative ideas

  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted for specific requirements as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years professional industry experience

  • Masters or terminal graduate degree in similar field preferred

  • Experience with instruction, higher education course planning, and course development

  • Highly strategic and creative

  • Outstanding creative judgment

  • Extensive knowledge and engagement with industry and national/international award

    shows

  • Passionate, resourceful, influential, solution-oriented
