The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University seeks a visiting professor in multimedia content.

The Cronkite School is a global leader in mass communications education that requires its media students—whether they seek to become journalists, brand storytellers or entrepreneurs - to pursue foundational coursework in multimedia content. These courses develop introductory skills in media literacy, basic HTML and website design, audio storytelling, photography and photo editing, videography and video editing, data visualization, content distribution, pitching, story packaging and social media. Since the lecturer will teach these core multimedia courses, knowledge across the discipline—and a passion for nurturing students’ skills—is required. The ideal candidate has professional experience in multimedia content, experience telling stories across platforms to engage audiences, and a demonstrated ability to champion industry standard technology. The candidate should have a robust portfolio of their own multimedia work, and an ability to motivate and help students develop their own.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, 9-month appointment with the academic rank of “lecturer;” this is not a tenure-track appointment.

Essential Duties
● Teach four courses in the Fall semester, and four courses in the Spring semester.
● Foster a learning culture that inspires mass communications students with multimedia content, tools and techniques.
● Engage in service to students and the Cronkite School, including student mentorship and guest speaking.
● Serve as the school’s multimedia storytelling thought leader, proactively staying abreast of new storytelling techniques and technology updates; curating exemplars of superior multimedia content; and highlighting superb student work.
● Collaborate with school leadership and faculty to develop multimedia curricula.
● Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
A master’s degree, and professional experience working in multimedia content creation, journalism, videography or a related field.

Desired Qualifications
● Demonstrated experience creating multimedia content for a professional news organization or other media outlet
● Fluency in the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Audition
● Ability to create (and nurture students’ abilities to create) a portfolio website, short podcast episodes, social media content, still photography using a mobile device, video news packages, data visualizations, simple motion graphics and other multimedia content
● Experience teaching media technologies and storytelling techniques to others
● A network of multimedia practitioners and experts who can advise on the field
● Experience working with undergraduate or graduate students in a university or agency setting and evaluating student work
● Experience using an online training or learning management system such as Canvas, Blackboard, Google Classroom, etc.
● Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in both professional practices and as a contributor to an inclusive working and learning environment
