The Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, a tenured Associate Professor, or a tenured Professor position in Home Economics Education in the Department of Curriculum & Pedagogy (EDCP). The appointment is expected to start July 1, 2023 (or as negotiated with the successful candidate).

 

 

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Home Economics Education or a closely related area, and a demonstrated commitment to research and publication in at least one of the following areas: Family studies, food studies, food literacy, food and nutrition education, textile studies, consumer education, fashion, home economics/human ecology, and/or teacher education. The successful candidate should have a strong background in curriculum and pedagogy in primary, middle, secondary, and/or community, and should be committed to providing leadership within the teacher education program as well as in the graduate program in home economics education and curriculum studies. Teaching experience at the K-12 level or equivalent is preferred.

 

 

The successful candidate will be expected to: 1) teach in undergraduate and graduate programs coordinated by the Department; 2) supervise graduate students enrolled in the Department’s programs; 3) be engaged in sustained and productive scholarly activity; 4) contribute to the scholarly community and service work of the Department, the Faculty of Education, and the University; and 5) participate in engagement or outreach within the broader educational community.

 

This is a tenure-track position in the Professoriate Stream. Rank and tenure are subject to a positive review of the successful candidate’s records following the process established by the University and in accordance with the UBC Collective Agreement before the appointment can be confirmed. If applicable, the successful candidate will be reviewed for reappointment, promotion, and/or tenure in subsequent years in accordance with the Collective Agreement. a cover letter indicating the position being sought and outlining potential contributions to Home Economics Education and the Department (please indicate if you are a Canadian citizen or Canadian permanent resident); a curriculum vitae; a statement of teaching philosophy; evidence of teaching effectiveness (including course outlines and student evaluations if available); one or two sample published papers that are most relevant in your research; a Diversity Statement (maximum one page) that describes and documents your contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) through your teaching, research/educational leadership, service, and community engagement, addressing the following three areas: 1) understanding of and knowledge about EDI, 2) track record in advancing EDI, and 3) future plans for EDI; and names and contact details of three references. Letters of reference will only be requested from short-listed candidates.
