Academic Success Coach

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Florida’s only public university exclusively teaching science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) is looking for exceptional candidates to serve as a Student Success Coach.

The Success Coach, as an individual that provides direct advice and guidance to students, provides curricular advising along with guidance that supports academic success and personal growth for our students. The success coach works directly with students in one-on-one, or in group settings with a focus on first-year students to provide academic advising, help with policy questions, help with adjustments to university life and life skills, and as a referral resource for non-academic support services on campus, such as financial aid and health and wellness. Services are provided to students in the second year and beyond at the university as well, noting that formal advising of students with more seniority at the university is provided by the faculty. Success coaches are responsible for in-person drop-ins and scheduled consultations with students.

JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Meet with students on campus, and provide connections to university services and activities;
  • Advise students individually and/or in groups regarding curriculum requirements, appropriate class selection, campus resources, academic policies, and procedures;
  • Conduct programming that focuses on the full student experience, ranging from campus activities to resume creation and job search skills;
  • Work in collaboration with campus partners to plan and coordinate activities and programming for students;
  • Support in student career development efforts;
  • Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Experience in planning student educational activities and an ability to understand the importance of course sequences, and semester course loadings, that directly impact student success.
  • Proven personal initiative, problem-solving skills, and customer service etiquette.
  • Disposition and proven work ethic to handle busy work cycles that may include evenings and weekends
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree; or a Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in science, engineering, or mathematics.
  • Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Experience working with university students in an advising capacity.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • This position requires a criminal background check, which may include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute §435.04.
  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is non-exempt. The normal work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., however, the schedule may vary depending upon activities. Occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required.

TARGET HIRING SALARY: $19.50 - $22.15/hr., commensurate with experience.
