Oregon State University Outdoor School (ODS) is seeking a Director of Outdoor School. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. 

This Director of Outdoor School will report to the Vice Provost of Extension and Engagement and Director of Extension Service. This individual will provide leadership for the OSU Extension Service’s Outdoor School (ODS) Program. Although this position is based in Corvallis, the ODS program is statewide and the individual will be required to travel to various locations throughout the state. The Director of Outdoor School will be a member of the Division’s Youth Team which includes the 4-H Youth Development Program, KidSpirit, OSU Open Campus, and Outdoor School.

The Outdoor School (ODS) Program resides within the OSU Extension Service (OES) and advances the Extension Service’s vision, mission, and goals through the statewide engagement of School Districts and Educational Service Districts in Outdoor School. The ODS Program helps Oregon’s youth learn better; develop leadership, critical thinking and social skills; and exposes them to the role of scientific inquiry and applied learning. The long-term goal of this ODS Program is to integrate placed-based programs into the Oregon school system that build upon youth’s skills in hands-on science and their abilities to be effective stewards and leaders in their community. Outdoor School is intended for all 5th or 6th graders in the state of Oregon. OSU Outdoor School Program website: http://outdoorschool.oregonstate.edu.

The Director of Outdoor School has leadership and administrative responsibility for the OSU Outdoor School Program and leads the development of strategic, long-range plans and identifies measurable benchmarks; secures financial resources; promotes partnerships and collaboration with internal and external partners; ensures program visibility at local and state level; supervises program staff; manages budgets to meet established benchmarks; promotes the principles and practices of diversity, equity and inclusion; reports on program accomplishments to Oregon State legislature and ensures that program practices reflect best practices in education. This position will require traveling to meet with program partners and stakeholders as well as to fulfill the general work requirements of this position. Active and effective communication with staff and key stakeholders is critical to the success of this position and access to wireless services may be necessary.
