Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the full-time, exempt position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. This position reports directly to the Head Athletic Trainer and Director of Athletics and is located in River Forest, IL.

This is 12-month (July 1-June 30) staff position. The Certified Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainer in all aspects of the Concordia University Chicago intercollegiate athletic training program including practice/game coverage, daily rehabilitation, training room supervision including student employees, drug testing, and athlete education. The ATC will be responsible for day-to-day athletic training needs of his/her primary teams, as well as assisting with other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer and Team Physicians.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Coordinate coverage and recommend procedures with the head athletic trainer for the prevention, recognition, evaluation and immediate care of student athletic injuries
  • Recommend and supervise rehabilitation and reconditioning of student athletic injuries
  • Assist in referral to health care providers
  • Attend at-home competitive athletic school sponsored events as requested by the head athletic trainer and be available to provide emergency care and first aid at such events until the arrival of emergency medical personnel or other health care provider
  • Supervise daily rehabilitation set hours Monday-Friday (including overseeing staff athletic trainer rehabilitation)
  • Consult with the team physicians on a regular basis regarding patient care
  • Assist in the administrator of drug testing and education
  • Use professional judgment and skill in carrying out athletic trainer duties
  • Assist with daily training room operations as medical record keeping, physician led injury clinics, and supply inventory
  • Consult with coaches, parents/guardians and student athletes as necessary
  • Oversee student assistants, their employment and scheduling
  • Serve as a supervisor, leader, instructor and resource for student assistants
  • Carry the appropriate liability coverage as provided by Concordia University Chicago
  • Maintain the following credentials:
    • OSHA bloodborne pathogen training as directed by Concordia University Chicago
    • Certification through the National Athletic Trainers' Association
    • Licensure through the State of Illinois
    • Memberships in the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association, and the Illinois Athletic Trainers' Association
    • Current certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer by the American Red Cross or BLS Healthcare Provider CPR by the American Heart Association
  • Provide coverage for Summer Sports Camps - June-Aug, Mon-Fri 9am- 3pm
  • Assist head athletic trainer with duties as assigned

  • Monitor all rosters and transfers into program, Confirm all ATS paperwork is complete and eligibility of student athletes is complete.
  • Communication to coaches related to student athlete well being
  • Commitment and respect for diversity
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, administration, and students
  • Ability to use a personal computer and the appropriate office software

Minimum Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in athletic training required
  • Experience in supervising student employees, collegiate football required

Education Requirements:

  • Master's degree with a concentration in athletic training or related field required
  • NATABOC Certification and Illinois Licensure/eligibility required
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or BLS Healthcare Provider CPR required
  • Strength & Conditioning certification preferred
