Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of the position will be to perform a variety of accounting functions from the identification of funds available for the payment of invoices and stipend transactions; respond to internal and external inquiries regarding vendor payment to the reconciling of outstanding payments to vendors; and supervise and direct two-four(2-4) accounts payable clerks and one (1) data entry position who serves as an accounting technician. The candidate must possess a working knowledge of the financial tracking process, to enable the position to resolve and research invoice related issues with the Banner Finance system as well as Eagles' Purch. The most crucial aspects of the position are to ensure that staff in the Accounts Payable and the Data Entry Offices are directed, trained, and supervised properly; that invoices are approved accurately, efficiently, and timely in accordance to policies, regulations and procedures; and to maintain the University's fiscal integrity, internal controls and process improvement efforts.

Minimum Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must possess:
  • A working knowledge of Banner or an equivalent system
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint) Applications
  • Knowledge of accounting and accounts payable practices and principles, and systems design
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
  • To take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion
  • To learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions
  • To exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving
  • To plan, prioritize and organize workflow
  • Ability to work flexible schedules
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent editing skills
  • Great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.
