As a relatively young university, in less than 50 years, Griffith has become one of the world’s top 300 universities through our commitment to progressive, innovative and socially focused teaching and research.

We are now seeking a transformational research leader with experience, drive and vision to steer the University’s research and innovation strategies on its ascent to the global top 200 in 2025—and beyond.

As our new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research), you’ll play a vital role in cementing Griffith’s status as an internationally renowned research-intensive university that makes a material difference to society.

You’re a proven leader who understands the innate power of education to transform the lives of individuals and their communities. You’re committed to pursuing work that makes the world a better place, driven by your belief in the University’s sense of ethics and its mission to create a brighter future for all.

You recognise that research should focus on impact as well as innovation, creating positive social outcomes in addition to technological advancements. You are also keenly aware of, and responsive to, the changing global research landscape and the challenges and opportunities it represents for Griffith and the international university sector more broadly.

From climate change, health crises and international relations to human rights, defence and security, and energy innovation, you recognise issues of global importance and the role of Griffith’s research in addressing society’s most complex challenges. You recognise that challenges of such magnitude are best addressed through interdisciplinary collaboration to deliver outcomes which add to human knowledge and understanding.

You are committed to transparency and consistency in your decision-making, and can communicate your ideas and vision clearly and effectively. Leveraging your outstanding interpersonal skills, you will have an established network of relationships within and across government, industry and the community.

Above all, you know that high-quality research doesn’t happen without high-quality people—you will support and enable our community of scholars at all levels to reach their potential of academic excellence. As a transformative leader, you will inspire those around you and will work collaboratively with staff to bring about meaningful change on an individual, institutional and international level.

About Griffith

For almost 50 years, Griffith University has been proudly doing things differently. Since 1975, our teaching and research have been addressing the most important social and environmental issues of our time.

Today, that mission is as relevant as ever. Social and environmental responsibility drive all we undertake, from introducing Australia’s first degrees in modern Asian studies and environmental science to its long-time support for First Peoples, social justice and sustainable practices. Consistently ranking in the top 2 per cent of universities globally, our degrees are designed with industry in mind, the future in our sights, and social impact at heart.

With more than 55,000 students, our community spans five campuses across South East Queensland plus our Digital campus, complemented by a global alumni network of over 200,000 graduates. In helping thousands of different people create a brighter future for themselves, Griffith University is creating a brighter future for all—and we’d love for you to join us.
