Job Description

The Geospatial Collaborative at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) seeks to hire a part-time Geospatial Data Analyst to work with faculty and community partners on a variety of geospatial and GIS projects.
The Geospatial Collaborative ( https://www.umsl.edu/geospatial/index.html ) is the platform and center for coordinating with UMSL faculty, other university units, workforce development, government sector leaders, and community partners around the use of geospatial technologies.
The professional who fills this role is expected to work within a GIS to provide solutions for a wide variety of partners. Tasks and responsibilities will vary depending on the nature of partnership, but skills with desktop GIS applications, and online solutions are expected.
UMSL is working to build out GIS and geospatial capabilities in both the university setting and around the region. As such, collaborators (and customers) will be widely varied, so the ideal candidate for this role should be prepared to engage in continual, self-directed professional development across the entire ESRI platform. Moreover, the successful candidate for this position will also actively seek out new GIS solutions and develop the associated competencies and skill sets, so that our faculty, students, other ecosystem collaborators, and consumers have the best solutions available.

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $35,000 Annually

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field and/or substantial experience in geospatial, data science, social science, computer science, urban planning, community development ecosystems, or a related field;
  • Knowledge of geospatial technologies and experience with data science and analysis;
  • Ability to create, maintain, and update geospatial databases using the ESRI suite of ArcGIS software and other tools as appropriate;
  • Ability to conduct geospatial research and ensure data is used accurately, and resolve conflicting information;
  • Capacity to evaluate, analyze, and implement GIS needs and/or assist partners in analysis and assessment across a wide variety of disciplines;
  • Proficiency in creating mapping and visualization products for use internally, and by partners;
  • Can perform other job responsibilities as assigned;
  • Adept at communicating with and problem solving for a variety of “customers” and applying lateral thinking and solutions to novel problems;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills;
  • Proven critical thinking, problem solving, time management, and judgment skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience working in government, community development, urban planning, or higher education;
  • Experience using ESRI products to include desktop applications (Pro, Adobe Creative Cloud Extension) and AGOL GIS solutions (web mapping, Survey 123, Story maps, Dashboards. 2-4 years preferred.)
  • Enthusiasm for data science, GIS, and analytic storytelling;
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, SQL, and Arcade;
  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills
