The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEEE) at Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2023. A completed Ph.D. in civil engineering must be awarded by August 15, 2023. Candidates are sought with expertise in structural engineering or closely related field.

The CEEE department has a rich tradition of teaching excellence dedicated to offering our students a balance of both the practical and theoretical aspects of civil and environmental engineering. The department serves approximately 120 undergraduates and 20 graduate students, and offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and Master of Science degrees in Engineering (specializing in environmental and water-resources engineering) and Environmental Science.  Undergraduate areas of emphasis include geotechnical, structural, environmental, and water resources engineering.  See http://cse.lmu.edu/department/civilengineering for additional information.

  • Embrace teaching in and fostering LMU’s diverse community of students, faculty & staff and challenging oneself, students, and colleagues to work toward greater diversity, and inclusion in the engineering profession,
  • Teach a variety of classes in general and civil engineering at the undergraduate level within and outside of one’s primary areas of expertise and potentially at the graduate level;
  • Develop thriving research agendas that encourages the inclusion of undergraduate students whenever feasible;
  • Pursue professional licensure and have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.

A strong application will include evidence of:

  • Practice experience in civil engineering and/or closely related fields
  • Possession of a professional license or licenses
  • Teaching experience as a lead instructor, particularly for a variety of classes
  • Experience as a teaching assistant, particularly for a variety of classes
  • A history of service experiences, particularly serving underdeveloped and underserved communities
  • A history of an active research program
