The Associate Director for Alumni Career Services in the Office of Alumni Engagement will develop and lead all initiatives for career-related programming and services that engage Syracuse University alumni. These initiatives include career guidance and counseling, connections to jobs, networking opportunities, corporate connection initiatives, and professional development programming. S/he will work closely with development officers, and regional partners to facilitate continuous engagement between alumni, corporate partners, and additional constituents.

The Associate Director will enhance strategies for alumni networking and engagement. S/he will also initiate new professional development programming, while working closely with key regions/markets to assist with additional outreach engagement efforts and volunteer identification. Lastly, s/he will implement and manage, with regular data reporting, an alumni networking/job sharing platform. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred, preferably in higher education, counseling, human resources or similar.
  • Experience with career development services including advising, workshops and presentations a plus.
  • Experience in HR, recruiting and familiarity with job market trends also a plus.
  • Proven ability to develop and enhance relationships across diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal communications, collaboration and leadership.
  • Keen understanding of technological applications for career services, alumni relations, data management and communications.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Certifications or training in career development or personality assessments, such as MBTI, Strengths Finder, Strong, etc.
  • Familiarity with job market trends and effective and useful career development strategies.
  • Knowledge of various technology resources relevant to career development, job searching, networking, social media, and data gathering and analysis.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement career-related alumni programming that meets the goals of the Syracuse University Alumni Association, the Office of Alumni Engagement, and the University as a whole. This includes but is not limited to career life coaching programs/sessions/appointments. Create and introduce new/expanded programming for ongoing professional development on campus, in various regions, and online to increase the engagement score across populations, industries, experience levels, and needs. Working closely with colleagues, implement and manage an alumni networking/job sharing platform.

Supervisory expectations: Manage Assistant Director, Alumni Career Services, West Coast, ensuring programming, events, and services are aligned with Office of Alumni Engagement and University goals, specifically focusing on increasing engagement scores for west coast populations and helping to enhance the west coast alumni network. Work closely to enhance career services offerings and create new professional development opportunities for all Syracuse University alumni.

Working in tandem with the Outreach Program team s/he will provide professional development/career services programs tied directly to key regional markets (clubs). In doing so, s/he will work to engage, identify, cultivate, and steward Syracuse University volunteers. This position will support the clubs’ priorities dedicated to building stronger/larger Orange networks and providing programming beyond social and service elements. Examples may include, Welcome to the City events and SU Professional Development Days.

Provide one-on-one counseling, workshops, and events to include counseling and advising for career exploration, job search strategy, networking, job application documents and more. Offer guidance in-person, over the phone, virtually, recorded, etc. and expertise for navigating the job market or career transitions in a variety of industries. These appointments and meeting will be aligned with key regional markets and also with expanded virtual opportunities.

Engage in collaborative, cross-campus partnerships for career services and alumni events, including school and college career services and alumni relations/development teams, other AEA departments, the Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience, and regional operations.

Oversee improvement process by determining the needs of alumni for career services, best practices for providing alumni career services and understanding the economic and market trends for a wide variety of industries, experience levels and skills through benchmarking, participation in professional associations and ongoing learning and research.
