Summary of Duties:

The Assistant Professor will teach lecture and/or laboratory courses in the School of Molecular Biosciences face to face and online (e.g., microbiology, genetics, and cell biology, biochemistry, science communication. Contribute to one or more of the School's scholarship areas through undergraduate teaching, research or creative activity, educational leadership, advising, or grant seeking in the disciplinary-based education research.

The School of Molecular Biosciences (SMB) boasts three undergraduate degree programs in the molecular biosciences (biochemistry, genetics and cell biology, and microbiology), five minors, and a fast-track undergraduate to doctorate program (https://smb.wsu.edu/academic-training/undergraduate-studies/stars-program). The School takes pride in its use of high-impact teaching practices to foster an inclusive educational environment focused on the personal and professional growth of all students.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, biology education research, or closely related field.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses in the molecular life sciences.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity in undergraduate STEM.
  • Ability and desire to work collaboratively and work independently.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses online.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate teaching assistants.
  • Familiarity with literature on undergraduate teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated expertise in discipline-based education research.
  • Experience coordinating laboratory courses.
