Assistant Teaching Professor, College of Built Environments, Department of Landscape Architecture

The Department of Landscape Architecture in the College of Built Environments (CBE) at the University of Washington (UW) invites nominations and applications to join our faculty as an Assistant Teaching Professor. The department has a dynamic culture of design and making including professional undergraduate and graduate degrees. We are searching for a candidate to teach across the curriculum at both introductory and advanced levels including design studios, lecture-based courses, and professionally-oriented technical courses. Landscape Architecture faculty are highly motivated, impact-driven, creative, and collaborative. Their teaching sustains and expands our capacity to provide high level, rigorous design-based education. 

Due to internal scheduling constraints and to provide a greater opportunity for students to interact with the interview process, the date when applications will begin being evaluated has been extended to September 16, 2022.  The new anticipated start date for the position is December 16, 2022.  The other details about the position have not changed.

The Department of Landscape Architecture enrolls over 120 students,  in undergraduate and graduate programs including LAAB accredited MLA and BLA programs, as well as hundreds of non-majors each year.

Responsibilities & Terms

Teaching faculty are expected to be on campus during the academic year to teach courses, mentor students and engage in service activities which may include advising students, assisting with student organizations, and serving on departmental and college committees.  Selected candidates will be assigned classes that may include studio, lecture, and seminar courses and include both required and elective courses. 

This is a full time 9-month (Sept 16th - June 15th), multi-year appointment with an anticipated start date of December 16, 2022 with an expectation that approximately 80% of time is dedicated to teaching and 20% to departmental, college and/or University service. The expectation for this position is to teach 6 - 7 classes annually though teaching loads are negotiated annually with the Department Chair. This position is for an initial three-year term with the possibility of multi-year renewal with a salary range of $72,000 - $80,000. The position provides full access to the employee benefits offered by UW, and is promotable to Associate and Full Teaching Professor. The position is not eligible for tenure.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Professional degree in Landscape Architecture (or foreign equivalent) or Masters degree in a related design and planning discipline (or foreign equivalent)
• Demonstrated teaching expertise in landscape architecture or in a related design and planning discipline
• Demonstrated capacity to teach and integrate design technologies into courses
• Demonstrated capacity to mentor emerging designers and/or students with diverse backgrounds.
• Commitment to collaborative and interdisciplinary engagement
