The Sidney Poitier New American Film School in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University seeks Learning Resources Specialist in the area of film and television practice. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), fiscal-year, fixed-term academic professional position based at ASU California Center at Herald Examiner Building, in Los Angeles, California.

About ASU California Center at Herald Examiner

The Herald Examiner Building in downtown Los Angeles stands out as a cultural landmark in a modern city. As the new home of ASU in Los Angeles, the ASU California Center at the Herald Examiner Building represents ASU’s growing evolution as a university of global impact. The Sidney Poitier New American Film School will run multiple programs from the California Center, including our Semester in L.A. program, a film BA transfer program, along with workshops and seminars.

Under the administrative direction of the Program Director, the Learning Resources Specialist coordinates and directs the activities and functions of the Program for Narrative and Emerging Media (PNEM) - a best-in-class research, teaching and gathering venue, with a focus on diversifying the demographics of who gets to create and distribute narratives using emerging media technologies in the areas of arts, culture and nonfiction. The Learning Resources Specialist independently ensures that the goals and objectives of PNEM within course development, production, fundraising, and management of immersive content are accomplished in accordance with priorities, time limitations and funding limitations, to create a center of excellence, bring together pioneers from diverse communities, push underrepresented narrative in technology, and use innovative techniques for practice and policy, all strongly anchored in ASU’s larger purpose of inclusion. Learning Resources Specialist will work primarily out of the new Herald Examiner Building (HEX) in downtown LA although a hybrid of remote and in person may be possible. Some travel to other ASU campuses may also be required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment and 3 or more years demonstrated experience in VR/AR/XR
  • Demonstrated success and recognition in creating work that exemplifies inclusion, diversity, equity, and social engagement
  • Demonstrated experience in leading production in immersive content (VR/AR/XR)
  • Demonstrated experience in event production (masterclasses, panels, keynotes and pitch sessions)
  • 5+ years experience leading XR festivals and events
  • 5+ years experience in fundraising for cultural institutions
  • Demonstrated experience in managing high profile international curriculum and course development in the film and XR industry ecosystem
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring group of professionals in XR ecosystem

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop proposals for external funding of projects set within an academic institution
  • Skill in planning, budgeting, implementing and evaluating VR/AR/XR and other projects within an academic framework
  • Knowledge of processes to conduct needs assessments
  • Experience in designing training materials and presentations to meet needs assessed
  • Ability to implement training, session reviews, and follow-up procedures
  • Knowledge of processes for dissemination of results through presentations, reports, and publication
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and establishing and facilitating work teams
