Position Title: Director, Office of Diversity & Inclusion
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) facilitates and implements programs and initiatives designed to expand awareness, understanding, and appreciation for the University of Central Oklahoma’s culturally, ethnically, socially, and spiritually diverse campus community. ODI is at the forefront of providing leadership and guidance for our students at UCO as we engage in civil and constructive dialogue to create a more inclusive campus – particularly as it pertains to our students. The general schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; Weekends and evenings as necessary to support programmatic efforts for students and ODI Team.
Position Overview:
Develop, implement, and manage activities, programs, and services related to student organizations, student leadership programs, and other campus activities. Develop and execute short and long-term plans, goals, and objectives for programs to ensure alignment with university goals. Monitor and report on participation and satisfaction and recommend improvements. Develops, implements, and authorizes the expenditures of department and fee-funded group budgets. Oversee activities and budgets of student fee-funded student organizations. Oversee staff, student employees, and volunteers. Oversee safety and compliance.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
Provides leadership to a program that is affirming and supportive of the diverse racial and cultural backgrounds represented within the university. Organize and initiate programs and services for African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, Native American, women-identifying, and LGBTQA students including needs assessment, programming for personal development, and the exercise of leadership, orientation, advocacy, advising of groups and individual students, and programming that promotes and deepens all students understanding of their own and others' cultures and heritages.
- Provide administrative leadership and oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs.
- Responsible for a new focus on the assessment of programs and implementing change.
- The Director will implement communication strategies that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and intercultural competence with a particular focus on their impact as related to student success.
- Develop and implement strategic goals, initiatives, and objectives to guide the Office of Diversity & Inclusion.
- Develop a new focus and plan initiatives designed to become an integral partner with the metropolitan area. Designed to raise awareness and partner in the recruitment and retention of students with diverse backgrounds.
- Serve as a liaison with university alumni, faculty, and staff to develop a mentor program for underrepresented populations on campus.
- Prepare and monitor the annual budgets and direct daily operations.
- Establishes collaborative relationships and partnerships with faculty, staff, and students in creating a more diverse and inclusive campus environment.
- Maintain awareness of changing needs of students and educate the campus community regarding the needs, strengths, and challenges of diverse student populations.
- Manage the operation of the Office of Diversity & Inclusion.
- Supervise professional staff and graduate and undergraduate student employees.
- Responsible for 2 functional areas - Office of Diversity & Inclusion and Women's Outreach Center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience that provides extensive knowledge of fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results. Extensive knowledge and compressive understanding of the functional area.
Seven plus years of experience with leading planning, including program development and innovation, program prioritization, and assessment. Appropriate professional accomplishments and credentials.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred :
Master's Degree preferred with experience in Higher Education, ideally in a student-facing area. Focus area on working with students from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of university systems.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to work with and develop partnerships within and outside the university community. Strengthen the relationship between UCO and the greater metropolitan area.
Ability to create and implement new programming initiatives and services.
