Position Purpose
To independently conduct experiments with an accomplished research team studying membrane fusion mechanisms, with full authorship attribution. See https://billwicknerlab.wixsite.com/vacuole-fusion.
Description
Our lab seeks an enthusiastic and skilled biochemist to do cutting-edge research projects studying how proteins mediate biological membrane fusion, with full authorship attribution. Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp
Bachelors plus 2-3 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Highly competent in several laboratory methods, procedures and techniques as well as the equipment and instruments, especially biochemical assays.
- Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgment.
- Ability to manage laboratory inventory and records.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Editorial skills for preparation of reports.
- Knowledge of computers and software applications.
- Knowledge of standard computer software packages for data analysis and presentation, and on-line literature search engines, skilled hands, and good judgment.
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in one of the Biological or Chemical Sciences or the equivalent.
- Three years of relevant laboratory/ research experience.

- Independently sets up and monitors experiments in progress.
- Identifies, troubleshoots, and corrects or recommends solutions to problems associated with experimental design; methods, procedures, and techniques; or equipment and facilities.

- Collects, analyzes, and interprets data resulting from experimentation.
- Performs literature searches to develop information of relevance to the research.
- Prepares appropriate and understandable representations of data such as sequences, graphs, charts, etc.
- Participates in the preparation of reports and presentation of the research findings.

Laboratory 10%
- Schedules and monitors utilization of laboratory facilities, equipment, and supplies.
- Monitors equipment and instrument performance; obtains necessary maintenance and repair.
- Orders and maintains stock of laboratory supplies.
- May provide technical direction to laboratory technicians and student workers.
- Monitors work in progress to ensure accomplishment is timely and in accordance with reasonable methods and standards.
- Instructs other in laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques and provides technical guidance and direction as required.
