Position Purpose
To be a member of a dynamic basic biomedical research lab (6-7 lab members), conducting research projects addressing a range of topics concerning the mammalian actin cytoskeleton, mitochondrial dynamics, cell motility, and metabolism. Experimental systems employed could include cell-free biochemistry, mammalian cell culture, and microscopy (live- and fixed-cell). In addition, to engage in laboratory management.
Description
Our lab seeks an energetic individual to help us drive our research forward. We are cell biologists and biochemists who study how things move around in cells. Movement is often powered by the actin cytoskeleton, so we focus on actin-based processes. We use mammalian culture cells for much of our work, using live-cell microscopy to track dynamics of multiple proteins or organelles simultaneously. We also conduct cell-free biochemical experiments with purified proteins, with the goal of understanding mechanism at a molecular level. An interest in either live-cell microscopy or rigorous biochemistry is strongly desired for this position. The successful applicant would work on their own research project in addition to maintaining the laboratory. We encourage applications from recent college graduates as well as those with post-baccalaureate training who have had substantive exposure in biochemistry, cell, or molecular biology.
