Organizational Unit Overview

 

Internal Medicine is a department within the Division of Health Sciences and Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The Department of Internal Medicine is comprised of ten divisions with over 85 full-time faculty and 150 support staff members. Each of the divisions has its own specialty clinic.

 

Internal Medicine is home to seven fellowships and two residency programs. In recent years collaboration and funding have come from many nationally recognized organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Service Administration, American Heart Association, NC Department of Human Health and Human Service. More locally, we have partnered with ECU Health (formerly Vidant) Medical Center Foundation, Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, North Carolina Biotechnology Center, and the Pitt County Health Department. Additionally, Internal Medicine participates in many pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical trials.

 

We collaborate with the Department of Pediatrics, the Department of Surgery, and the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences within the Brody School of Medicine. The Department of Internal Medicine has a close affiliation with ECU Health Medical Center and serves a diverse population in eastern North Carolina. ECU Health Medical Center, a 974-bed tertiary care teaching facility, serves as the primary teaching and clinical care venue for an integrated nine hospital hub and spoke system.

 

Job Duties        

 

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, seeks an Endocrinologist to join our team at East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, at the rank/title of Assistant, Associate, or Professor, with probationary-term (tenure-track) or fixed-term appointment.

 

Duties include clinical care in areas of general endocrinology, diabetes, and lipid disorders in inpatient and outpatient settings; participating in an active clinical trials program; and teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows. This position is required to travel to an outside clinic in Windsor, NC one day per week. This position will also be expected to contribute to the Endocrinology Division’s scholarly research efforts.

 

The division offers a one-year Diabetes Fellowship Program for Primary Care Physicians, and a fully accredited two-year Endocrine Fellowship Program, with two fellows per year.

 

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center (ECUHMC).  ECUHMC is the flagship hospital for ECU Health (formerly Vidant Health) and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECUHMC is the tertiary referral center for ECU Health Medical Group, a regional health center network serving 29 counties.

 

Minimum Education/Experience

 

  • MD or DO from an appropriately accredited institution. Must have completed at least a three-year Internal Medicine Residency, and completed at least a two-year Endocrinology Fellowship. Board Eligible/Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. Demonstrated strong clinical, teaching and interpersonal skills are required.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

 

  • Must obtain a North Carolina Medical license prior to employment.
