Job Summary

The Student Academic Success Center is pleased to invite applications to teach ARSC 3100 Multicultural Perspective and Academic Discourse for the Fall 2022 semester. The course serves Junior and Senior level students and meets the General Education requirement for Written Communication. The course carries 3 credits and has students practice advanced forms of writing through sustained inquiry into current social justice issues. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience and substantial working knowledge of how to support underrepresented students to successfully negotiate the institutional barriers to success in higher education.

Who We Are

The Student Academic Success Center (SASC) is a learning community for students who are from communities historically underserved in higher education. Focused on supporting student success from matriculation to graduation, our approach integrates instruction in core academic subjects, individualized advising, and social integration through career planning and community gatherings. We offer instruction in gateway science courses, mathematics, leadership, and writing and rhetoric and house student support programs, including TRiO McNair and Student Support Services.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Teach one section of ARSC 3100, Multicultural Perspective and Academic Discourse.
  • Train and mentor undergraduate instructional assistants who work in the classroom.
  • Attend training in inclusive pedagogy.
  • Complete early alerts and communicate with department coordinators to support classroom success and college retention.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $5,635.00 - $7,430.00.

What We Require
  • Four years of experience teaching at the college level.
  • PhD in Writing and Rhetoric, Creative Writing, or a related field.
What You Will Need
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity.
  • Substantial working knowledge of current best practices in writing pedagogy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of students, staff, and faculty.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Substantial experience supporting students who are low income and/or first-generation.
  • Teaching experience in courses focused on topics in social justice.
  • Graduate of the McNeill Academic Program, TRiO Student Support Services, or a similar program.
  • Demonstrated engagement with the Conference on College Composition and Communication or other national writing organizations.
