Position Summary
The Technology Support Consultant ( TSC ) for the School of Business ( SOBU ) is responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, and integrity of the technology and software used by the SOBU to support a variety of databases, enterprise data, and system services SOBU faculty, students, and staff access daily. The TSC provides direct support for all technologies used by SOBU faculty in the classroom and course delivery to provide instruction and assistance to students.
Essential Job Functions of Position
• Serves a lead role in the acquisition, course setup, and classroom support of new technology (may include technologies such as AWS cloud computing, D2L learning management system ( LMS ) integrated content from publishers’ online learning systems, video technology and other software) to deliver SOBU courses. Determines what hardware, software or system operating requirements are needed.
• Develops and presents group and individual instruction on computer use, related hardware and software to help users learn about and expand their technology capabilities. Supports instructors on usage, updates, lesson development, and problems encountered with the use of class technologies. Serves as lead investigator and technology advisor to faculty and staff. Works with course instructors to acquire and manage datasets for class projects.
• Ensures the reliable availability and integrity of the SOBU’s network’s databases, enterprise data, and system services offered. The TSC is responsible for maintaining, supporting, and optimizing the cloud infrastructure for efficiency.
• Surveys students, faculty, and staff to identify technology needs and preferences. Conducts research to identify available resources and evaluates alternatives to determine additional equipment, software, and peripherals to enhance SOBU’s technological capabilities.
• Researches technology trends and identifies solutions to enhance the SOBU computing experience and environment and assists in the strategic planning regarding ITS related issues. Performs cost/budget analysis on possible acquisitions as a basis for reports and budget requests. Presents recommendations to appropriate staff and follows university procedures to initiate requests for approved purchases. Initiates and maintains vendor contacts, ITS interface, and manages licensing and contracting. Serves as School technology liaison with Washburn ITS and serves on relevant School or University Committees.
• Recruits, trains, schedules, and supports student tutors who serve as lab/course tutors.
• Maintains currency in current technologies and applications through training and education.
• Performs additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
Non-Essential Job Functions of Position
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a technology-oriented field (such as information systems, computer science, data science, data analysis or technology administration, engineering, math) and one of year experience providing technical support, and server/network administration; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Expert user of Windows 10 and Microsoft Excel
Preferred
• Knowledge of Microsoft PowerBI, Tableau, Altreyx, and some RPA applications
• Programming knowledge for database Structured Query Language ( SQL )
• Training or teaching experience
• An interest in working with college students
• Willing to become a certified trainer for using the business simulation of HEC ERPsim and Cortina ( SAP / ERP system)
• Familiarity as an instructor/user with a learning management system such as D2L
• Programming experience in one or more current computer programming languages (preference given to Python, Java/JavaScript, with other languages of interest including Microsoft DAX, Visual Basic, C++, Go, etc.)
• Database administration skills as MySQL user and admin, and Microsoft SQL Server database administration
• AWS (Amazon Web Services) Administration experience or expected to work towards earning entry-level Foundational “AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner” certification per job requirements
• Experience using an ERP system such as SAP R/3 or S4 HANA, or Microsoft Dynamics
• Familiar with Apple Mac operating systems to assist students
