As an Assistant Director of Player Transition & Recruiting Communications, you will assist in the management of student-athlete player transition and recruiting communications on behalf of the football program.

What you’ll do:
  • Engage in ongoing communication with parents and guardians of committed prospective student-athletes.
  • Provide guidance to committed prospective student-athletes for effective registration with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
  • Conduct initial academic eligibility assessments of prospective student-athletes.
  • Serve as liaison for WVU’s admission and housing applications.
  • Assist student-athletes with insurance waivers as necessary.
  • Assist student-athletes with NCAA Clearinghouse materials submission including submission of registration forms, test scores and high school transcripts.
  • Assist incoming student-athletes with FAFSA/Pell Grant submissions.
  • Disperse initial strength and conditioning contact to signees.
  • Coordinate and serve as host to Signee Day coinciding with annual spring game.
  • Responsible for coordination and execution of Newcomer Report Weekend.
  • Lead and execute 3-Day orientation for incoming student-athletes.
  • Monitor academic progress for all incoming student-athletes by scheduling weekly meetings.
  • Responsible for yearlong programming for new incoming student-athletes via the Bridge Program.
  • Assist the Director of the 5th Quarter Program with the coordination and execution of the Big Brother Program.
  • Assist with the coordination of player housing including weekly on-campus housing checks and the transition to off-campus housing for student-athletes.
  • Regular communication with parents and or guardians of signed and enrolled incoming student-athletes.
  • Serve as 5th Quarter liaison, working closely with community service initiatives and the social responsibility pillar
  • Assist recruiting department with virtual recruiting visits, junior days, unofficial and official visits for potential student-athletes and guardians.
  • Execution of the defensive recruiting communication plan, ensuring they have all relevant information needed to fulfill the duties.
  • Input of all relevant defensive recruiting communication feedback and notes into Catapult on a weekly basis (daily when coaches are on the road recruiting).
  • Letter writing campaign for recruits on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Execution of Whistle Communication for the defensive coaches
  • Assist with the creation of defense prospect bio sheets for staff meetings when players are visiting campus.
  • Develop a relationship with targeted defensive prospects to build a rapport with the recruit, his family, and circle of influence in the decision making process.
  • Report directly to the Director of the 5th Quarter Program and indirectly to the Director of Personnel & Scouting; work closely with coaches and athletic administrative staff and with all others involved with carrying out the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of the 5th Quarter Program and Director of Personnel & Scouting.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all rules, regulations, policies and guidelines of West Virginia University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA; must adhere to NCAA Bylaw 11.1 Conduct of Athletic Personnel. Failure to adhere to these policies will result in appropriate disciplinary action including possible suspension and termination.
  • Represent the University on the highest professional level with dignity, integrity, and strength of character and will exhibit ethical behavior; must respect the rights and dignity of individuals with sensitivity to problems that may arise from racial and ethnical differences.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative attitude towards all sports within the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Possess the ability to adapt to any situation, make decisions and work independently; position must have the ability to build and maintain relationships with student-athletes, coaches, staff members and constituencies; required to use creative abilities to develop new techniques and approaches in dealing with many issues controlled by this position; responsibilities of the position are ever-changing and require constant education; requires the ability to adapt to any situation and make decisions.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information related to student-athletes, coaches and staff utilizing discretion and correct decisions. Failure to use proper discretion at required level could result in major and significant embarrassment to the University and/or have a significant impact on image, revenues and eligibility of student-athletes.
  • Manage professional and personal time to handle time sensitive-issues, tight deadlines, extended hours beyond the normal workday, weekend work, regular travel in-season and on-call availability.
  • Faithfully and diligently execute related duties of the department, as requested or assigned by the Head Football Coach or Director of Internal/Football Operations.
Qualifications :
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience involving:
    • Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Maintain high standard of ethics and integrity related to intercollegiate athletics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and conference guidelines, policies, rules and regulations with the ability to interpret, apply, enforce and explain such policies and rules
  • Maintain knowledge of state and University policies and procedures
  • Exhibit strong creative, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to function professionally under high stress and confrontational circumstances
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks for extended period
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan and organize work; Proactive attitude towards work and assignments
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and develop personal contacts with outside groups, i.e. student-athletes, professional representatives, fans, media, donors, University community
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Demonstrated knowledge of record keeping and adherence to schedule; Ability to maintain proper unit attendance and punctuality standards, work extended hours including nights and weekends
  • Ability to stay abreast of information impacting the affected area
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and motivate groups and individuals
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effected areas of involvement
  • Ability to make administrative / procedural decisions and judgments
  • Demonstrated ability to drive and travel via motor vehicle; Maintain a valid driver’s license
