Position Summary:
The Sensorimotor Performance and Rehabilitation Engineering (SPRE) Lab is looking to hire 1 graduate research assistant. The SPRE lab is located in the Department of Occupational Therapy (CHP Building Rm 5011). The SPRE lab studies sensorimotor integration during development, and studies the effect of sensory processing deficits on motor development. This is an hourly position for up to 10 hours/week. Compensation commensurate with experience, to begin as soon as the position is filled.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Prepare literature reviews
- Assist with subject recruitment: distribution of flyers, reaching out to potential participants
- Assist with research: coordinate with research participants
(children and their families), equipment setup, data
collection
- Assist with data processing: video coding of research data,
organize research data
- Attend lab meetings
- Perform routine laboratory maintenance such as organizing lab
equipment, maintaining inventory of lab supplies
- Perform routine clerical and administrative duties as instructed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current OTD student at VCU
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Available to work weekends and after class
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Dependable, reliable, organized, flexible, excited about learning new things
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do as a staff member at VCU
- Working knowledge of statistical analysis
- Background in kinesiology, biomedical engineering, neuroscience or movement sciences
- Experience working with children and/or children with special needs
- Experience with computer software (e.g. MATLAB, LabVIEW, video
coding software)
- Previous research experience
