Job Description:
The Senior Security and Visitor Engagement Assistant will provide an integrated customer service approach to safety and security, while protecting assets of the museum. As an ambassador of the museum, this individual leads by example, assisting guests, vendors, and museum staff in an effort to understand and comply with museum guidelines and policies that will result in an outstanding guest experience. This is a TEAMS Non-Exempt, part-time, 20 hours per week position; additional hours may be required. Schedules are varied and are created based on the needs of the museum and include evenings, weekends, holidays, and some weekdays
The responsibilities include:
Security
- Monitoring designated areas of the museum, staying constantly alert to protect visitors, staff, art, and the building. Discreetly circulating among visitors, patrons, or employees in order to avoid damage, either intentional or accidental, to the art and the building. Speaking tactfully and courteously with visitors who do not comply with museum policies.
- Continuously observing the art and the building, identifying and reporting any potential problems, safety hazards, vandalism, mechanical failure, or irregularities to the Security Supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
- Calmly assisting with incidents that result in injury to visitors or employees. Completing and submitting all necessary reports to management.
- Investigating incidents resulting in loss or damage to art or the museum facilities, completing and submitting all necessary reports to management.
- Responding to emergency situations or disasters in an expeditious manner following Harn Museum of Art policies and procedures, contacting appropriate departments, such as but not limited to, the University of Florida Police Department, University of Florida Facilities Services, etc. as well as Harn Museum of Art staff as appropriate.
- Under the direction of the Security Supervisor, actively participates in the development of security plans; taking the initiative to suggest and implement processes that ensure the safety of people and property.
- Using available training resources to maintain the highest level of knowledge regarding best practices in security and customer service.
- As a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under The Jeanne Clery Act, all security positions are required to take the CSA training, which includes reporting offenses and other actions as covered by the training.
- Actively participates in the planning, controlling, and monitoring of electronic security systems; reporting irregularities to appropriate personnel.
- Assists with maintaining records, including but not limited to the staff/visitor log, property passes and security log.
- Implementation of an effective control system, inspecting packages and monitoring building access to ensure that access is granted only to those so authorized.
- When assigned, supervises security and OPS personnel staff during events scheduled outside normal business hours.
- Assists with the development of security schedules to ensure complete security coverage for the Harn Museum of Art.
- Assists with developing, planning, and conducting general security and emergency training programs for Harn Museum of Art employees.
- Provides timely and accurate information to management on unusual conditions or situations within the Museum.
- Keep up-to-date on policies, procedures, and the status of facilities. Monitors operations, programs, and changes in laws or ordinances that might affect the Museum.
- Provides security desk coverage, on an as-needed basis, greeting guests courteously and providing visitors with assistance, information, and directions as needed.
- Assists with the setup and breakdown of equipment, chairs, and tables for Harn activities.
- Provides security escorts, as assigned, for maintenance or other activities throughout the museum.
- Assists with the monitoring of climate control conditions within the Harn Museum of Art.

Expected Salary:
$15.91 per hour
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

- Ability to accurately recall events witnessed visually and translate to written documents.
