Position Function

This position will coach, mentor, and guide high-priority, high-need students to include academically at-risk students through a caseload support model. This position will provide comprehensive academic coaching and student success strategies to help students maintain academic progress and timely degree completion, ensure appropriate and accurate academic records, execute departmental/divisional administrative policies, and use judgement and discretion appropriately.

Minimum Education

Master’s degree from an accredited institution by date of employment.

Minimum Experience

One year of experience in academic advising, student services, counseling, academic coaching, or related field.

Minimum Other

A Board Certified Coach credential or International Coaching Federation recognized Certification Program.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Preferred Experience

At least three years of experience in academic advising, student services, counseling, or related field in higher education; familiarity with Ball State curriculum; familiarity with Banner and Degree Works.

Preferred Other

Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and administration; ability to identify barriers to students success and facilitate effective remedies; ability to synthesize information and prioritize goals; ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal platforms; ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for diversity; ability to utilize advising software tools.

The Student Success Coach Office was established in 2022 to expand academic support provided through University College. Student Success Coaches are professionally certified coaches who help students gain insight into themselves as they pursue success academically and personally. Through discovery and curiosity, coaches partner with students to develop the necessary tools to create a thriving experience at Ball State and beyond.
