Political Science: Assistant Professor of Criminal and Constitution Law

POSITION: A probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor is available in the Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences The department seeks a dynamic candidate with expertise in criminal and Constitutional law who is committed to teaching excellence and to maintaining an active program involving undergraduates.  This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2023/2024 academic year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in the field of political science by August 26, 2023 (ABD applicants may be considered but must complete the terminal degree by March 15, 2024.)  We seek candidates with ability to teach courses in criminal and/or Constitutional law.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to candidates that can teach courses in the areas of due process, civil liberties, and civil rights.  Candidates that can teach courses in any area of public policy as well are strongly encouraged to apply.  Evidence of successful university teaching, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness is also preferred.

DUTIES: Teach courses in the Department of Political Science based on program needs and in accordance with specialization; participate in research and scholarly activities; develop and/or maintain a scholarly research agenda; provide academic advising to students as assigned; engage in service to the department, university and profession.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Political Science consists of 12 full-time faculty in the fields of political science and criminal justice. With over 450 majors and 100 minors, the department is one of the largest within the college. Our award-winning program faculty work collaboratively with students on research, oversee Service Learning and internship projects, and have the opportunity to teach abroad.  The department is home to the Menard Center for Constitutional Studies, a center dedicated to scholarship and public outreach on issues regarding civil liberties broadly defined.
